To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I ROBERT ANGUS GILLIEs, a subject of king George of Britain, and a resident of the city of Calgary, in the Province of Alberta and the Dominion of Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Collapsible Table-Top,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a collapsible table top the object of which is to provide a plane upper surface that is capable of being folded into a very small compass and is therefore suitable for use as a card or writing table while traveling in a railway train, support being given by resting upon the knees of the users.
The drawings clearly illustrate my device and Figure 1 is a view of the top of the table showing the plane surface. Fig. 2 is a view of the underside of the table showing the supporting members. Fig. 3 shows the device partly collapsed and Fig. 4 shows the device folded ready for packing into a suitcase or grip.
Similar characters denote similar parts throughout the several views.
It will be seen on referring to the drawings that the plane surface consists of sections hinged together, the end section A having a celluloid writing surface, the central section B having perforations suitable for recording cribbage scores by the insertion of pegs which pegs are held in place by grips on the end section C when not required for score recording. The intermediate sections 1 are covered with baize and the surfaces of all the sections are in one plane when the top is extended to form a table.
Joining the sections is accomplished by hinges composed of fabric on the back and where folding inwardly by reinforced baize.
To hold the top rigidly in one plane braces 2 are pivoted to the back of each alternate section and a plate 3 is secured to the other sections between which plate and the back of the table the braces engage. By means of these braces it is possible to fully or partially extend the table as desired.
hat I claim as my invention is In combination, a collapsible table top consisting of folding sections the end section having a celluloid face, the central section having perforations for recording purposes and the other end section being provided with means for holding the recording pegs, the whole of the sections when extended forming an upper plane surface which is maintained by braces pivoted to the back of alternate sections and plates secured to the backs of corresponding alternate sections between which plates and the back of the sections, the braces engage to form a rigid top, all substantially as de scribed.
