PATENT Fro BENJAMIN F. DAILEY AND EDWARD DOUGHERTY, JR, OF MOUNT PLEAS- ANT, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT lN COFFEE-ROASTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,633, dated December 3, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, BENJAMIN F. DAILEY and EDWARD DOUGHERTY,J1.,OfMOL1nt Pleasant, in the county of Henry and State of Iowa, have invented anew and valuable Improvement in Coffee-Roasters; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the constructionand operation of the same, reference being had tothe annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a longitudinal section of our invention. Fig.
2 is a transverse section of the same.
This invention has relation to coffee-roasters; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the casing, having lugs for ready attachment, and the cylinder provided with a small shelf arranged below an isinglass panel, for the purposes hereinafter more fully set forth.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the outer casing of a coifee roaster having an open flaring bottom to receive as much heat from the stove as possible, and constructed with its upper part or top of a concavo-convex form, coinciding with that of the revolving cylinder 1), which is designed to contain the coffee, and which has its shaft-bearings in the ends of the casing A, and is operated by means of a crank, O. The casing A is provided with two lugs, a a, which pass between the crossplate and main top of thestove, and serve to secure the coffee-roaster to the stove so that it will not be dislodged by the movement of the cylinder. The cylinder is provided with two sliding panels, E E, the former covering an opening through which the cylinder is supplied and emptied, and the latter of which is made of isin glass, covering an opening through which may be observed the coffee while being roasted. F designates a small concavo-convex 0r otherwise-shaped shelf, depending from the interior surface of the cylinder below the isinglass panel. This shelf is designed toreceive and expose to view at any time when the roaster is taken from the stove, a small quantity of coffee, so that the condition of the contents may be determined without difficulty, the darkness of the cylinder otherwise preventing its contents from being seen.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The coifee-roaster having the casing A provided with the lugs a a, roasting-cylinder D having the transparent panel E and shelf E, substantially as specified.
In testimony that We claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN DAILEY. EDWARD DOUGHERTY, J R.
