UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. HOWARD, OF I-IAZLEI-IURS'I, MISSISSIPPI.
TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
Application filed October 30, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM S. HOWARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hazlehurst, in the county of Gopiah and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toilet-Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to toilet paper holders wherein a removable axis can be inserted centrally in the roll, and wherein storage is provided for subsequent rolls for successive use.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is aperspective view of the complete device, with closed doors.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the completed device, with open doors.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device, with the hinged lid open.
Fig. t is a vertical section on the line H of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a detail view, showing the means of fastening the lid normally, and
Fig. 7 is a detail view on the line 7-7 of Fig. 4.
Similar designations refer to the same parts in all the views.
The entire device consists of a casing 1 having a hinged lid 2 and doors 3 leading to side compartments where rolls of toilet paper are stored for successive use on its floor 1. A square case 5 hinged at its bottom 7 at either end of the axis 8 of the toilet roll serves to prevent lateral displace ment of the axis 8 during its rotation. A catch 6 holds the case 5 normally down, but when the used roll is to be replaced the catch 6 is uniastened, the case 5 is swung toward the doors, and the axis 8 is then Specification of Letters Patent.

capable of lateral movement until it strikes the recess 12. Bearings 9 afford means whereby roller 10, held in place by gravity block 11, prevents the toilet paper from crumpling and facilitates its delivery. Hooks 13 on the inner surface of the lid 2 engage fasteners 14 011 the inner vertical walls of the casing 1. If it is desired to suspend the device cords 15 are used to this end.
lVhen the roll 16 is exhausted and is to be replaced the casings 5 are tilted so as to permit egress of the roller 8 in either direction; the roller 10 and gravity block 11 being meanwhile removed. The new roll 16 is then inserted until axially its center coincides with the bearings of the axis 8, which is then laterally pushed in place. The roller 10 and block 11 are then replaced; the casings 5 are then swung back and fastened, thus locking the axis, permitting scv-.
era-nce of paper from the roll.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a toilet paper holder consisting of one central and two (counterpart side compartments; the central compartment having lateral hearings to receive the ends of the axis of the holder, and antipodal vertical grooves to permit insertion of a superimposed roller and a gravity block, the side compartments having pivoted casings alternately locking and permitting withdrawal of the holder axis, for the purpose herein fully set forth.
2. The structure consisting of a central and two side compartments as shown and de scribed, in combination with the axis, the roller, the gravity block; and the pivoted counterpart casings permitting the alternate locking and withdrawal of the axis, for the purpose shown and described.
WILLIAM S. HOIVARD. Witness:
V. R. Coons.
