.To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, SOUTHWELL WILLMAN,

'a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Type-Writer Desk-Case, of which the following is a specification.

The inventionrelates to a travelers desk l will hold the necessary writing materials,

such as stationery, order blanks, memo slips and other accessories for the l conduct o business by a traveling salesman.

Another object of the invention is the prolvision of a case ofthis character, wherein the accessories, for use by the traveler, are held in pockets or compartments, which are readily accessible when the case is open and yet-will be out of the way of the typewriter supported within the case for use so as toavoid any interference in the working of the typewriter.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a case of this character, wherein the same, on the opening thereof, affords a desk for papers, stationery, articles, and a support for the typewriter `to permit the, convenient use thereof when the case is placedon a car seat, a chair, or other article the case, when folded, being designed to completely house the typewriter and the supplies so that the same can be readily carried in the hand of the user without discomfort or the possibility of disarrangement of the contents of the case. A

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a case of this character, which is simple in construction, strong, durable, reliable and efficient in its purpose, and `inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, the combination 0f `-elements and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the Scope of which willv be indicated in thefollowing claims.

The top or cover B is formed with a marginalvrim, which is deeper at the front 10 than at the sides 11, which latter are also deeper than the back' 12 of said rim, and formed on the side 11 of the rim interiorly thereof are inset ledges 13, which contact4 with the sides at the upper edges thereof, and also with the beveled portions 14 of said sides at the front open end, when the top or cover B is closed, so that the sides 11 of the `rim will overlap the sides of the body, while the deeper portion 10 of the rim will partially close the open front end of said body. ` whereby the lid or closure section C when closed will lie substantially flush with the front 10 of the rim on the top or coyerB. On the opening of the front end of the body by lowering the lid or closure section C to the position shown in Fig. 1, it can be used as a shelf or tray, the lid or cover section C being swingingly supported upon links 17 which are pivoted to the ends of the flange 15 and also pivoted to the sides of the body A, whereby the lidA or section C can assume thepositions shown in Figs. l and 2, or moved into closed position. The lid or section carries a suitable combined lock and hasp 18, which coperate with a keeper 19 mounted on the front, 10 of the top or coyer B, so that the latter and the lid or section C can be fastened in closed position and securely lock the case against intrusion.

The front 10 of the top or cover B carries a suitable strap handle 20, so that the case can be carried in Vthe hand when the I occasion requires.

The` top or cover B is suitably hinged to the rear wall or back of the body A, while secured eXteriorly of said rear wall or back at the end edges thereof, and also extending over the back 12 of the rim of said top or cover and the bottom of the body A are protective straps 21, which prevent the marring or scratching or otherwise damaging of a support. when the case is placed thereon in the position shown in Fig. l, or the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and these straps 21 also reinforce and strengthen the body of the case.

Arranged interiorly of the body A of the case is the upper horizontal partition 22, which extends from one side to the other of the body and has its ,rear and front edges vspaced from the rear wall or back and the front open end of the body. yThe lower partition 23, extends from one side to the other of said body and at its rear edge meets a vertical partition 24, which rises therefrom extending `vertical partitions 25, which .rise froml the horizontal part-ition 22 to a height corresponding to the height of the transverse vpartition 24C to provide above the former 'an intermediate typewriter space 2G and outer envelop pockets or compartments 27. The partition 23, which is spaced below the partition 24 forms acompartment or space 28 for "the reception of filing slips, account books; or the like, while immediately below the forward portion of the partition 23 is a compartment or space 29 for the reception of envelops or other articles. The space or compartment 29 is separated from the space or compartment 30 formed by the vertical transverse partition 24, through the medium of a vertical block or transverse partition 31, the space or compartment 30 being extended beneath the rear portion of'.

as at 32, so as to avoid any interference with the folding of the movable part of the foldable typewriter on occupying the space or compartment 26 between said partitions, when the typewriter is folded.

The pockets or compartments 27 for envelops will properly contain the same to avoid any undue upward protruding thereof into the path of the movable carriage of the foldable typewriter when set up for 'use,.and will assure accessibility to the envelops.

Upon the partition 22, constituting the supporting bed, and working within the typewriter space or compartment 26 is a slidable typewriter bracket, which comprises a substantially U-shaped frame 33, preferably made from metal formed on opposite sides at the inner and outer extremitieswith offset curved ears 34 having upturned curvilinear lugs 35. and upon these ears rest the feet of the typewriter when placed upon the rack 33, in a manner as shown by dotted linesr in Fig. 3 of the drawings, while the lugs 35 form stops for the feet to prevent displacement of the typewriter upon the rack. Formed longitudinally in the limbs 36 of the frame 33 are parallel slots 37y which receive therein headed guide pins 38 fixed in the bed 22 near the forward end thereof, the slots 37 being formed at their rear ends with curvilinear portions 39 which serve to lslightly distort the limbs 36. lVlien the frame 33 has been pulled outwardly to thc position sllownby full lines in Fig. 3

The extremities of the slots 37 in the limbs 36 of the frame 33 coact with the pins 38 to limit the forwardiI and backward movement of the frame in extending and retracting y the same. Formed medially of the closed forward end of the frame 33 are pivot eyes 40 receiving a suitable pivot which is also passed through the pivot eyes 41 formed at the forked end of a swinging brace or leg 42 connected by the pivot to the frame 33, the leg being formed with a hook end 43, which is adapted for engagement with a raised ledge strip 44! at the forward end of the bottom of the body A, when the frame 33 has been extended for the proper and secure supporting of the typewriter thereby, as is clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The prop or leg 42 can be swung upwardly into the open center of the frame when the latter is to be retracted upon the bed 22 within the space 26 for the typewriter. The frame 33 at the closed end thereof at the point of the bifurcation in the prop or leg 42 has formed thereon a sto tongue 45, which limits the downward swinging of the prop or leg 42 for the engagement thereof with the ledge strip 44, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The front edge of the bed 22 centrally thereof is cut away to provide a notch 46 constituting a clearance for the pivoted end of the leg or prop 42, when the frame 33 has been moved inwardly upon the `bed 22, and intersecting this notch 46 at opposite sides are counterseats 47, which accommodate the pivot eyes 40 on the closed end of the frame 33, and in this manner said frame when retracted within the Space 26 can be held therein against outward displacement, it being necessary to slightly raise the frame when it is desired to extend thesame, so as to disengage the pivot eyes 40 from the counter seats 47 on opposite sides of the notch 46 in the front edge of the bed. The front closed end of the frame 33 is formed with a depending flange 48 constitilting a finger grippingl portion to permit the convenient manipulation of the frame for the extension of the frame from or its retraction within the typewriter space or compartment 26 in the case.

The under face of the bed 22 medially thereof is tunneled to form the arch 49, so

a receiver 50, which forms a pocket for re ceiving paper clips or other fasteners for use in binding materials or stationery together or in fact any small articles may be held therein, and the same is closed through the medium of a hinged lid or cover 51, which is held in closed position by a resilient catch 52. The receiver 50 is located so as to t within the basket of the typewriter when the top or cover B is closed.

The top or cover B is provided on its inner side with two or more projections 53 for engagement with the typewriter to hold it from vibration or movement within lthe space or compartment 26 when the case is closed and carried or supported with its rear wall downward.

When the rack, constituted by the frame 33, is extended, the typewriter is not removed therefrom as the case provides a support which is of the required height and the typewriter is held in proper position for use anclatfords leg space or room 'beneath the rac The sides of the body A have swingingly pivoted thereto latch hooks 54, which are adapted to engage the keepers 55 on the sides of the rim of the top or cover B, and these keepers are formed with rotatablel latch heads 56 designed to lock the latch hooks 54 engaged therewith to prevent the accidental disengagement of the same when the top or cover B is closed, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The case, when in this position, is accessible, so that papers can be removed from the compartments 28 and 29 exposed through the partially open front of the body of the case, as will be obvious.'

Secured to the forwardly extending ver tical partitions 25 at the rear corners of the compartment 26 are wedge-shaped blocks 57 with which coact the rearmost ears 34 of the .frame 33 constituting the rack when retracted within said compartment 26, so as to avoid lateral displacement of the rack and the typewriter carried thereby.

()n the lid or closure C at the inner side thereof is carried a suitable holder clip 58 in which an oil can and cleansing brush are adapted to be removably held, being readily accessible for use` when the lid or closure C has been swung to open position.
