Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
CHARLES Gr. TAFT, OF TRIANGLE, YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DUMPlhlG-WAGONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,602, dated December 3, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. TAFT, of Triangle, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented a new and use ful Improvement in Dumping-Wagons, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to furnish a wagon for transporting and unloading stone and similar material; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts here- .inafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top or plan view of the wagon, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of Fig. 1 taken on the line as 00.
B is the front two end boards, and rests upon the inside of the bottom in the middle of the wagon, as represented. The bottom and ends being thus supported by this rod, are allowed to turn thereon in either direction, as seen in Fig. 2. On each side of the wagon-box, and working in a slot in the side board, is a cam-1ever,I
and J, so arranged that the cams come just above the bottom when the levers are turned up to the side boards, as seen at J.
When one of the cams is turned out, as seen at I, the bottom will turn and dump the load, as seen in Fig. 2; but when both cams are turned in the bottom is secured in a horizontal position, and may be loaded with stone or other material, and in this condition the load may be movedor transported and then dumped on either side, as may be desired.
I do not confine myself to the precise form and arrangement shown, as variations may be made without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl.v A dumping-wagon box, consisting of the sides E E, ends G G, bottom F, rod H, and
cams I and J, arranged to operate substantially as shown and described.
2. In a dumping car or wagon, the combination, with stationary sides E, of a rotating body formed of a bottom, F, provided with ends G G, arranged to turn on a longitudinal pivot-rod, H, as specified.
I CHARLES G. TAFT.
