SWINGLETREE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 21,1919.

WILLIAM E. JONES, or ELLISVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, AssIciMoR or ONE-HALF 'ro CLAUD s. WILLIAMS, or ELLISVILLE, MISSISS PPI.
SWINGLETREE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1920.
. Application filed July 21, 1919. Serial No. 312,189.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM E. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellisville, in the county of Jones and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Swingletree, of which the following is a specification,
This invention relates to swingle-trees, and more specifically to metallic swingletrees.
An object of this invention is to provide a swingle-tree formed of commercial stock and which may be readily assembled to embody the maximum of strength with the minimum of weight of its components.
Another object of this invention is to provide a swingle-tree of generally improved construction, whereby the device will be simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, as well as convenient, practical, serviceable and eliicient in its use.
With the-above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, 1t being understood that, wlthin the scope of What is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. I
The invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure l. is a plan view of the swingletree;
Fig. 2. is an edge view of the device;
Fig. 3. is a transverse sectional view taken on line of Fig. l;
Fig. t. is a transverse sectional View taken on the line 4% of Fig. 1. V
Referring to the drawings, there is shown an elongated body member 1 formed of" relatively thin plate or strap metal, and the opposed ends of this body member are curled or turned to provide sockets or sleeves 5.
A reinforcing member 2 is provided and nals to form an attaching eye 3. Arms 4: extend perpendicularly from the opposed terminals of the reinforcing member 2 and pass through the sleeves 5. The ends of the arms 4 which are remote from the reinforcing meniber 2 are turned upon themselves to provide attaching hooks 6. A loop or ring 7 passes around the intermediate portion of the body member 1 and through the eye 3, thereby rigidly securing the rein forcing member 2 to the body member 1. This arrangement presents a highly ad vantageous structure in that various strains that are usually imparted to swingle-trees, when in use, are uniformly distributed throughout the device.
Having thus described my invention what is claimed is A device of the class described including an elongated body member formed of stock strap-metal, the opposed terminals of the body member being curled to provide inte v gral terminal sleeves, a reinforcing member formed of relatively thick stock rodmetal and extending along one longitudinal edge of the body member, said reinforcingmember having an attaching eye formed intermediate its terminals, arms forming a continuation of the reinforcing memberand extending perpendicularly from the reinforcing member through the said, sleeves," attaching hooks formed at the terminals of the said arms, a loop formed of stock rodmetal and passing through the attaching eye of the reinforcing member and around the intermediate portion of the body member, thereby rigidlyfsecuring the reinforcing member to the body member and looking the loop member against movement relative to the reinforcing membervand the body member. 1 In. testimony that I claim the foregoingas my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
