combined folding tents and beds of that character wherein the combined folding tent and bed may be folded into a compact and small package and placed in a comparatively small space.

Another object of my invention is to improve the construction of combined folding tents and beds and to so construct the combined folding tent and bed as to permit the bed or tent to be used independently of one another or arranged so as to be used combined.

A further object of this invention is to provide a combined folding tent and bed of this character, which is so constructed as to permit the bed to be readily and quickly set up and the tent so .attached thereto as to be positioned over the bed so as to provide a combined folding tent and bed.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, the numeral 5 gener ally designates the bed structure which includes side rails 6 and 7. The side rail 6 includes a pair of sections having their inner ends hingedly connected as indicated at 8. An auxiliary side rail 13 isarranged on one side of the side rail 7 and is adapted to be forced into clamping engagement with the rail 7 for supporting a fabric covering or mattress 16 for the bed.

An angled lever 12 is pivoted intermediate its ends to one section of the auxiliary side rail 13 as indicated at 11 and has its forward end pivoted to one section of the side rail 7 A link 9 is ivoted to the other section of the side rail at 10 and at-its opposite end to the pivot element 11. When it is desired to separate the sections of the rail .18 from the sections of the side rail 7, the handle of the lever 12 is drawn upwardly. The pivot element 10 operates within an elongated slot 10 and therebypermits the upper and lower sections to freely separate upon actuating the lever 12.

The auxiliary side rail 13 includes a pair as indicated ftudinal' edge of this covering 16 is adapted to be clamped between the opposing faces of the sectional auxiliary rail and side rails 13 and 7 respectively. Thus itwill be apparent that the covering will be held taut by virtue of the lever being moved into clamping position and urging the sectional rails 13 and 7 into engagement with the free edge of the covering as illustrated in Fig.

To support the bed in upright position, I provide end legs 18 and center supporting legs 19. The end legs 18comprise a plurality of members arranged. in pairs and each pair pivotallysecured intermediate its ends as at 20. Each pair comprises a short member 21 and a longer member 22. The

upper ends of the short members 21 are pivotally connected by the links 23 while the i lower ends of'the longer members are pivotally connected by the links 24. The upper ends of the longer members 22 of one vpair of legs are pivotally secured to the side rails 6 and 7 at one end: thereof by the links 25, while the other end legs are adapted to be removably secured to the free ends of the side rails 6 and 7 respectively. The up- A per free ends of the longer legs 22 which are adapted to be removably secured to the side rails 76 and 7 have secured thereto the U- shaped members 26 in which are adapted to be secured the hooks 27 carried by the free end of each of the side rails 6 and 7 respectively as illustrated in Fig. 13, thus it can be seen that one pair of the end legs may be readily removed from the side rails when the device is to be folded.

The center supporting legs 19 comprise a otally connected as at 28. One memberof each pair is pivotally secured at its lower end by the links 29 and the upper ends of the other pair and provided with a catch 30 which is adapted to engage a lug. 31 for removably connecting the upper ends together. The free upper ends of the other pair have secured thereon bearings 31 which are adapted to be pivotally secured as at 32 to the side rails 6 and 7. It will be readily seen that by virtue of these legs and their connections with the side rails that when assembled the bed will be supported in an .upright position and by virtue of the inclination of the hooks 27 and the connection of the end supporting legs to'the side rails,

that the side rail will be inclined downwardly and outwardly in opposite directions. A pair of-end rails 33 comprise sections 34 and 35, each section having its inner end reduced as at 36 on which reduced end is fitted a band 37. The band 37 is adapted to secure the-sections 34 and together by screws 38 which extend through the band and engage the reduced ends 36 thereof as illustrated in Fig. 12. The outer end of each section 34 and 35 of the end rails 33 have secured thereon and extending laterally from the ends thereof, a strip 39, which strip is adapted to be removably bolted to the upper end of the longer member 22 of each of the end supporting legs adjacent the upper end thereof as at 40 and clearly shown. in Fig. 8 of the drawings.

It is to be understood that the opposite ends of the fabric covering 16 are to be provided with suitable pockets in which the sections 34 and 35 of the end rails are adapted to be so fitted as to hold the fabric taut when the bed is in a set up position, it being only necessary to unbolt the end rails from the legs when it bed. V

A standard 44 is removably secured at its lower end to each bearing 43 and is adapted to rest upon the upper side of the sectional side rails 6 and auxiliary rail 13. The standards 44 rise vertically from their removable connections with the bearings 43 and have hingedly connected to their upper ends as at 45 the struts 46. The lower ends of the standards are removably secured to the bearings 43 by bolts 47, which 0 bolts permit the standards to be entirely plurahty of members arranged 1n pairs plvremoved from the bed structure-when it is desired.-

A 'T-shaped bearing 48 is pivotally secured to the free ends of the struts 46 as at 49 and the stem of the bearing is pivotally secured as at 50 to the outer end of each section'51 of the ridge pole; The inner ends of the sectional ridge pole are hingedly connected together as at 52 and are provided on their opposite sides from the hinge with the blocks 53 which prevent lateral swingrection.

Struts 46 are hingedly connected as at '45 to the standards 44 through the medium of the block 54 which is carried by the hinge 45 and has at its upper end a band 55 which ing movement of the ridge pole in one di-"" slidably engages the lower ends of the struts 46. The lower ends of the struts 46 are provided with a band 56 which slidably engages the standards 44 thus permitting the struts to be adjusted vertically on the standards 44. Then it is desired to increase the height of the tent, it is only necessary to urge the band 56 carried by the lower ends of the struts 46 above the hinge 45. lVhen it is desired to use the device as an ordinary wedge tent, it is only necessary to urge the band 56 carried by the struts 46 downwardly below the hinge 45 of the standards 44, thus the standards and struts are parallel. T 0 hold the struts and standards parallel, the block is provided with hooks 57 which have their free ends embedded in the struts 46 and this prevents any relative movement of the struts with relation to the standards.

It will be understood from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that the combined folding tent may be easily and quickly set up for use and that the bed may be quickly folded and the same used as a tent only, or it may be further all disconnected and folded and rolled in a compact package which would take up a comparatively small amount of space.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A device of the class described including side rails, one of said side rails comprising a pair of sections, an auxiliary side rail arranged above the sectional side rail and including a pair of sections, a lever pivoted to one section of the auxiliary side rail and to one section of the sectional side rail, the other section of the sectional side rail being provided with an elongated slot, a link provided at one end with a pivot pin slidably and pivotally mounted in said elongated slot, said link being pivoted at its opposite end to said lever and hinges connecting the adjacent outer ends of said side and auxiliary sections.

2. A device of the class described including side rails, one of said side rails being sectional, an auxiliary side rail adapted for clamping engagement with said sectional side rail and including a pair of hingedly connected sections, an angled lever pivoted intermediate its ends to one of the sections of the auxiliary side rail and having its forward end pivoted to one section of the sectional side rail, a link pivoted to the other section of the side rail and to the intermediate portion of said lever, and supporting legs for said side rails.
