PETER MAROS, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
TRUNK-LID HOLDER.
Specification of `Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1920.
Application filed October 16, 1919. `Serial No. 331,003.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER MAEos, a citizen of Russia, residing at 285 Highland live., llVaterbury, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useiiul Improvements in rl`runlr-Lid Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.
The principal object of this invention is to provide'a trunk lid holder adapted to retain the lid securely when in an open posh tion.
Another object is in the provision for readily attaching such devices to any hinged covered container, so as to close within it self, thereby occupying little space, the device being of great strength and of simple construction.
rlhese objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective assembled view of the device. t
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2 9. of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates a rectangular bar having a deep recess 11 formed in one of its sides adapted to receive a movable brace strip 14;-, having offset reduced end sections, one of which is pivotally secured within the recess 11 by the rivet 15 the opposite end being pivoted within a slot 16, by the rivet 17, passing through a movable block 18, slidably retained within the rectangular tubular bar 19.
Stop elements 21 and 22 are fixed interiorly of the ends of the tubular bar 19, thereby limiting the movement of the block.
A slot Q3, piercing one side of the tube 19, permits the entrance and movement of the brace strip 111 and provides means for inclosing same when the trunk is closed, the elements l0 and 19 being rigidly secured to thelid 12 and trunk body 20 by the rivets 13 and 2d respectively.
In operation, the lid l2 is raised vertically with respect to the body 12', this action moving 'the sliding block 18 outward to the :tar end of the slot in the bar 19, causing engagement of the projection 18 with a similar but reversed projection 22 oi? the fixed stop 22, thereby preventing the cover from being moved farther or the block from rising when the cover is open, obviously the block 18 moving to the front and the brace strip 1d becoming partially contained in the slots 11 and :23 when the lid is closed.
Having thus described my invention what l. claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a trunk lid holder, the combination with a trunk having a hingedly attached lid, of a bar fixed in said lid transversely thereof, a tubular bar fixed in said body in register with the first named bar, a block slidable in said tubular bar, a projection at one end oi said block, a brace strip pivoted in the irst named bar at one end and to said block at the other, said bars each having recesses adapted to contain said brace strip when said lid` is closed, a pair oit stops iiXed in said tubular bar limiting the movement oi said block, and a projection formed with one of said stops engageable with the first named projection preventing said block from rising from the mentioned recess in said tubular bar.
In testimony whereof I have ailiXed my signature.
PETER MAROS.
