To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that I, J ULIUS M. GERMAN- SON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Molding-Flasks, of which the following is a description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
The invention relates to molding flasks and more particularly to means :tor securing the parts of the flask in alined position and is fully describedandexplained in the specification, and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure '1 is a plan view of the device embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detail view or" one end of the flask; and
Fig. 4: is a plan view of a modified form of bracket used with the flask.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the drag and the numeral 6 the cope section of the flask which are of usual construction and it is to be understood that the invention may be used in connection with any suitable drag and cope.
The invention resides in the means for securing the mold sections in alinement with each other and particularly in such a way as to permit a separation of the sections without throwing them out of alinement so that the pattern may be withdrawn or the interior 01"" the mold may be inspected and the sections replaced in their correct position.
This means consists of a bracket 7 secured to one of the ends of each mold section and a bracket 8 secured to the other end of each mold section and further consists of alinement means hereafter described.
Each bracket 7 consists of a box-like memher having an end 11, sides 12, top 14 and bottom 15, each of said brackets being connected to its respective mold section in any suitable manner as by bolts 16 passing through the end 11 of the bracket and the end of the mold section. A short lug or pin 17 secured to or formed with the top 14 projects upwardly therefrom and has a conical end 18, said pin adapted to fit in an aperture '19 in the bottom of the adja- V ticularly when Specification of Letters Patent. The short pin 17 with its conical end fitting in the perture 19 or" the adjacent bracket and the pin 17 with its conical end fitting in the slot 24% of the adjacent bracket hold the mold sections in alinement and permit the ready separation of the mold sections by simply tipping up one end of cope section to release either the pin 17 or 17 from its engagement with the adjacent bracket. a
Each bracket 7 has alined apertures 25 to receive a long guide pin 26 and each bracket 8 has a slot 27 in line with the slot 2% to receive a long guide pin 28 having an eyed end 29 extending at right angles to it and adapted to engage the upper pin 17 when the mold section is placed upon a suitable elevated support.
These pins 26 and 28 cooperate with the guideways, in the brackets to provide additional means for maintaining the mold sections in alinement with each other and parsaid mold sections are moved a considerable distance apart as when the pattern is being withdrawn or the interior of the mold is being inspected and by maintaining the sections in alinement, when separated, said sections may be readily returned to their correct position as the lifting of: the upper mold sections moves the pins 26 and 28 upwardly in their guideways in the brackets in the lower mold sections for some distance.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 4 the brackets 8 are provided with alined elongated openings 30 instead of the slots 24:

What I claim as my invention is: 1. In a moldlng flask, the combination with the mold sections, of brackets secured to the ends of the sections, an upwardly projecting short pin formed on the top surface of each bracket, means on the bottom surface of each bracket for engagement with the pins of brackets on a lower member, and removable guide members carried for engagement with the pins of the bracket on the lower section, the brackets on certain adjacent ends of the mold sections being provided with alined recesses, a guide pin of a length equal to the combined Width of both brackets, and an eye formed on the upper end of the guide pin and adapted to engage the short pin of the upper bracket and having its shank engaged in the alined recesses. v V
3. In a molding flask, the combination with an upper and a lower mold section, of a bracket secured to each end of the mold section, an upwardly projecting short conical pin on the top surface of each bracket, means on the bottom surface of each bracket for engagement with the pins of the bracket on the lower section, the brackets on certain adjacent ends of the mold sections being provided with alined recesses, a guide pin, and an eye formed on the upper end of the guide pin and adapted to engage the short pin of the upper bracket and having its shank engaged in the alined recesses, the brackets on the other ends of the sections having alined apertures therein, and a guide pin passed through said apertures.
