Description

M. L. PIERCE. PINCUSHION, APPLICATION FILED JUNE 14, 1918.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY L. PIERCE, 0F MARLBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
PINCUSHION.
Application led .Tune 14, 1918.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, MARY L. PIERCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marlboro, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pincushions, of which the following' is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in pin cushions, the object of the invention being to provide. an improved pin cushion which embodies a core figure which adds greatlyto the attractive appearance of the cushion and' also serves to preserve the form of the cushion.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved pin cushion of this kind with a holding frame which serv-es to increase the attractive appearance of the pincushion and also enables the same to be readily hung up on any suitable supporting object.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter describe-d and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view of a pair of pin cushions constructed in accordance with my invention and Iprovided with a holding` frame by means of which they may be readily suspended.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of one of the cushions.
My improved pin cushion embodies a core ligure l, a stuffing 2, and a covering 3. In practice the core figure may be any suitable design and is here shown as a small doll. Any animal ligure or other figure may l:- substituted and employed if desired in the construction of my pin cushion and I would have it understood that I do not limit myself in this particular.
The stufling 2 may be made `of any suitable material, such as raw cotton or the like. The covering 3 may be made of silk or any other suitable fabric. The covering is gathered around the core figure near the end of the core figure, as at 4f. Hence in a cushion in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mana, 1920.
Serial N o. 240,037.
which the core ligure is a doll, as here shown, the head and feet of the figure will project from opposite ends of the cushion. As here shown the hands of the doll also project from one side of the cushion. The covering may be made of any suitable fabric other than silk or satin if preferred and may be of any suitable or desired color or shade.
I also in accordance with my invention provide a holder 5 which is here shown as a hoop and which is covered by a winding 6 of ribbon or the like.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. l, two of the cushions are employed, as indicated at A and the cushions are arranged side by side and stitched to opposite sides of the holder hoop and are also lightly stitched together. A ribbon band 8 extends across the center of the hoop and connects the upper and lower sides thereof and also passes between the cushions and is provided at the upper side of the hoop with a bow or suitable knot 9.
The holder frame serves t'o greatly cnhance the attractiveness of the cushion and also forms a supporting base therefor and enables the cushion to be readily hung up if desired.
A single cushion may be employed in the holder frame or any suitable number' of the cushions may be so employed as desired.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
In a pin cushion, a hoop-like support, a band extending across the center of the hoop and connected to the upper and lower sides thereof, cushions secured to the hoop, connected together and having their confronting ends contacted by the band, and cach of said cushions having a core figure provided with ofset portions the ends of which, as well as the ends of the core ligure eX- tending through the cushion, and a stuffing in the cushion around the core figure.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
MARY L. PIERCE.
