TIE-MOLD. A
i Applicationfilefi June 25 To all whom it -may. concern: 1 Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. SHEAREB,
a citizen of the United.Statesfresiding "at San Antonio, in
State of Texas, havefinvented certain new and useful Im rovements in Tie-Molds;
I do hereby e'clarethe following to be a full; clear, and exact description or th'eli ventio'n, such as will enable others'skilledv in tains to make and use the same.
This invention tie molds andlhasfor one of its objects the pecially adaptable for forming concrete railroad-ties of .the character set forth in my Pat'ent'#1,229,154. p s
Another objectfof this inventionlis the provision ofmeans for formingthe cushion block recesses and the lateral depressions for receiving the securingbars,
A further ob ect of this invention is the rovision of means rib to the tie.
A still further object of this inventlon 1s the provision ofmeans for supporting the for formingthe V -shaped reinforcing elements or tie bars in their when pouring the cement or and which can be readily resetting of the proper place other material I moved after the partial cement.
A still the provisionof stated character, rable and efficient. and which further object of this invention is a tie mold of'the above which shall be simple, dumaybe manulow cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the'description proceeds. the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement ofparts as will. be hereinafter more fully described and cla med. 7 V I For a complete understanding of my invention reference is to be ,had to the following descri tion and-accompanying drawings. in which Figure 1 1s a vertical sectional view of a tie mo d constructed in'acco rdance withmy invention, a Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a trans e se sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, Fig.4 is a similar view 4-4 of Fig. 1,
Specification of Letters Patent.
the county of Bexar and relates to improvements in 7 taken on the line i "Fig. '5 is a fragmentary pe'rspecti've view of one of the side boards, a V
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the, side and end boards illustrating the manner. of securin them together,
Fig. "is apersp ective new 6': the 'palle't,"
Fig.8 is a transversesectional view tak'en onthe line 8-8 of Fig. 1, and" i 9 is aside elevationo Referring in mea am. 24, 1920.. .1918. Serial 116.241,?98.
f heente G5 detail to the drawings; the
numeral 1 indicates (as an entiretya mold frame conslstmg of side and endmembers 2 and 3.",v side members 2 are provided? with 'rooves A adjacent their ends to slidably Feceive ribs 5, formedupon the ends" of the endwmembers 3. Bolts 6, extend through youtwardly'of the-end; members?) and are' keys 7 The-side members slotted to. receive the end ar the side members 2 2 hav efformed thereon oppositely disposed passer-lugs 8"wh'ich are adaptedfto 'form' v side faces of the tie 10. I
depressions 9 in the A pallet 11 is positioned within the mold frame 1 and consists of a bottom member 12 having formed upon itsedge's beveled beads 13 that are adapted to form the 1 beveled edges 14: of the tie '10.
The bottom member or board" 12 has formed thereon rectangular blocks 15 which arepositioned between thepairs of lugs 8 and are adapted the blocks 15 in engagement with the lugs '8 provides means wherein the recesses 16 will to formthe cushioning block recesses 16 of the tie 10. Bv having 1 1;
be in communication with the grooves 9 in the finished'product as illustrated in Fig.
The side members 2 are provided with a plurality of openings 17 located directly above the lugs 8 to receive supporting members 18. The supporting members 18 are adapted to be inserted through the openings 17 for the purpose of supporting and holding reinforcing elements or tie members 19 in their proper position between the side members 2 when pouring the cement into the mold frame. The supporting members can be readily removed when thecement or similar material has become partially'set leaving the 7 reinforcing elements embedded within the cement. 1 r l I A rib forming plate 20 is positioned between the side members 2 of the mold frame 1 after the same has beenfilled with the cement or similar material. The plate .20 has its inner face curved 1n' arcuate formation 7 longitudinally and transversely" is inclined" in V-shape formation as illustrated at 21, so that when the cement has become set a substantially V-shaped rib 22 will be formed within the tie '10 intermediate its ends as gillustrated in Fig. 9. The plate 20 is held in position by'suitable clamps 23 -ex-tending about the mold frame I and which holds the pallet 11 in position. v a
While I have shown and described the preferred embo'dimentof my invention, it
will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing fwforming recesses in the moldedarticle and" etween the'pairs-of lugs. for aiding in preventing movement of the pallet in re-:
'80- lngiirece es in the molded article adjacent V fitting walls,{ a pallet from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. I I i Having thus described my invention, what I claim isz, i
"1. A mold including side and end wins, pairs of slpacedlugs formed on the side walls; a pa ett'associated with the walls, and spaced blocks secured to the pallet for latlon to the wan; v V
2. mold including sideandend Walls, pairs of spaced lugs formed onftheside associated with the Walls, spacedhlockssecured to the pall t for formeach end and said-blocks fitted between the pairs of lugs for aiding in preventing movement of the pallet in relationto the wall,
said lugs forming grooves in the moldedarticle and communicating with the recesses,
pairs of rods removalbly secured to the side "at right angles and their intermediate porpairs of spaced lugsformed on the" side walls, ajpalleft associated with the walls,
spaced blocks secured to the pallet and fitted 1 between the pairs oflugs, supporting ele ments carried by the side alls, reinforcingmembers supported bysaid supporting ele ments and havin their intermediate IP01?- tlons of arcuate s ape, a rib forming plate associated with the sidewalls and having its inner face curved in arc'uate' formation longitudinally and inclined in V-shaped formation transversely, and clamps'seouringsaidf plate to the sidewalls. I f p In testimonywhereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
