W/T/VESSES INVENTOR J13. f/odyes, C
A TTOHNEYS road machines and particularly to road makf JOHN n noneus or HULETT', WYOMING. V
' I nonne nannn S pec ificatic; .ters Patent. Patented Feb. 24, 1920.
Application filed September 3, 1919. Serial No. 321,370.
To all whom it may concern: V Beit known that 1, JOHN BVHODGES, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hulett, in the county of Crook and State of Wyoming, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Road-Graders.
My present invention relates generally to i'ng devices of such 'nature s adapts the same for use as graderglevelers, snow scrapers and the like, my object being the provision of a simple, inexpensive and'durable arrangement, capable of ready, quick and convenient adjustment and of effective use.-
In the accompanying-drawing, illustrating I my present invention, and forminga part of this specification, g Figure 1 is a-top plan view,
Fig. 2 is a transversesectio'nal vie w showmg a slight rearrangementof the parts, and
, Fig. 3 is a detail vertical section taken on line 3-3of Fig. 2.
Fig; 4c is a side view, partly in elevation .and partly 1n section, illustrating a slightly modified form. r v
Referring now-to these figures, my nv vention proposes anapparatus including a I openings 12 ings 13 at pinslG are "staples to secure the connecting loop, thus permitting it to. function as'a connection and still allow the forward ends of the side bars" to be adjusted toward and away from one pair of side members 10 and 11 each in the form of an angle bar one flange'of which is disposed vertically and one horizontally, the latter turned either in an inward di rection, as'seen in Fig. 1 or anoutward di rection as in Fig.2 depending upon the desires oi the user and the particular use 35 l to which it is put.
' The horizontal flange of each side bar has intermediate 1ts ends and openthe forward ends'thereof, the
formerreceiving bolts for adjustably securing a transverse seat board 14. The front openings 18v receive clevises or other draft attaching, means (not shown). At. their rear ends, the side bars having laterally projectin theend of a flexible wire loop,16. 'Taper another. g V Y I Adjacent to its forward end the apparatus has an adjustable spacing arrangement including adjusting arms 17 and 18,
each boltedby a bolt 18at its "outer end through one of the sldebar openings: 13,,
' staples 15 over which are extended thrust downwardly through the The inner ends ofthese arms 17 and 18 overlap, and the inner end of arm 17 has a longitudinal series ofteeth 19, into the notches between which a single projecting hoolrQOat the inner end of the arm 18 extends. I A- clamp 21 surrounds the lapped ends of arms 17 and 18; and consists of a lower plate 22 as in Fig. 3 to one end of which is hinged one end of a U-shaped'piece 23, the opposite end of which may be joined,
to the opposite end of the plate by a clampin bolt 24. This arrangement makes for quick effective adjustment and joins with the remaining features in providing for ready interchange to fit the various uses to which it is to be put.
I claim 1. A device of thelcharacter described, I
"comprising a'pair'of side angle bars having their upper horizontal flanges provided with apertures adjacent to one end, having their upright jecting staples adjacent to their opposite ends, a flexible loop extending around the last mentioned ends of vthe angle bars and over the staples, taper pins projecting through the staples securing the loop end in position'and an adjustable connection between the outer ends of the bars mounted through the said apertures. device of the character described, in-
2. A eluding a pair of side angle bars, means flexlbly securlng the bars in engagement with one another at one end and an adjustable connection for the opposite' end, including a pair, of connecting arms secured at their outer ends by theangle bars, arms having a series of notches extending therealong'and the other bar having a tooth at its-inner end for adjustable engagement with, the saidnotches and a clamp for securing the inner ends of the arms in engaged relation.
"3 A device of thecharacter described includingapair of side angle bars having apertures adjacent to one end, a flexible con-.
nection uniting said bars at their opposite end and an adjustable connection for the first mentioned end including a pair of conarms bolted at their outer ends necting I he side "bar openings, said arms through ends provlded with laterally proone of said I having relatively engaging means at their inner ends and a clamp for same 111 engaged relation.
