Be it known'that I, FRANK H. RAAZ, a
citizen of the United States, residing at El.
Campo, in the county of Vharton and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Flow, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide novel means whereby, in a wheel-mounted plow, the frame of the machine may be raised or lowered at will. In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows inside elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a front elevation; Figure.-
3 is a top plan; Figure 4 is a. cross section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3; Figure 5 is a" cross section on the line 55 of Figure 3; gu e 6 s a cross section on the line 66 of Figure 4.
The frame of the machine comprises a gular cross section. Angle brackets 2 are mounted on the main bar 1 and are held thereon by U-bolts 3. Beams 4 extend across the main bar 1 and are secured at 5 to the brackets 2. The'beams 4'arec0nnected by a brace supporting a seat 38. .The rear ends of the beams 4 carry plow shares 6. The numeral 9 marks a head bar mounted on the beams 4. The head bar 9 forms amounting for a draft hitch 22 which is adjusted by connecting means 23, and a lever 25 fulcrumed on one of the angle brackets 2.
A clamping sleeve 39'is held by a draw bolt 40 on the main bar 1 and carries a segment. 41. A shaft 42 is mounted for rocking movement in the bar 1. A collar 43 is fixed to the shaft 42. A lever 44 is secured to or formed integrally with the collar 43 and is provided with a latch mechanism 45 adapted to cooperate with the segment 41. The collar 43 carries a segment 46. A hanger 47 is mounted to rock on one end of the shaft 42. A lever 48 is carried rigidly by the hanger 47 and is supplied with a latch mechanism 49 adapted to cooperate with the segment 46. A collar 50 is secured to the shaft 42 on the opposite side of the machine from the parts last above described. The collar 50 carries a segment 51. A hanger 52 is mounted to rock on the shaft 42 at the outer end of the collar 50 and carries a lever 53 pro vided with a latch mechan m 54 adapted to cooperate with the se entwheels 55 are journale on the hangers 52 and 47. The hangers 52 and 47arejprovided' with guards 56 shieldingthe inner ends of the hubs of the groundwheels 55.
When the lever 44 is swung, motion will be transmitted to the collar43which is fixed to the shaft 42. Motion will likewise be transmitted to the hanger 47, because the hanger 47 is locked to the collar 43 through the instrumentality of the latch mechanism 49 and the segment 46. Motion will likewise be transmitted to the hanger 52, because the hanger is connected to the shaft 42 through the instrumentality of the latch mechanism 54, the segment 51 and the collar 50. 7 Thus, by a manipulation of the lever 44, both of the hangers 52 and 47 will be swung, and the frame of the machine will be lowered or raised, on both sides at once, with respect to the ground wheels 55.
The latch mechanism 49 may be disengaged from the segment 46 whereupon the lever 49 may be used to rock the hanger 47,
thereby lowering the frame of the machine at one side thereof. ,The latch mechanism 54 may be disengaged from the segment 51 whereupon the lever 53 may be employed to rock the hanger 52 to the end that a raising or lowering of the frame, at the opposite side of the machine, may be brought about.
Generally stated, the implement comprises means for raising and lowering both sides of 1 the frame at once: and means for raising and lowering either side of theframe, independently ofthe other. I g
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a main member; a soil-engaging element; means for connecting the soil-engaging element to the main member; a shaft mounted to rock in the main member; hangers pivoted on the shaft; ground wheels carried'by the hangers; means for locking both hangers for movement with the shaft; means for swinging either'hanger independentlyof the other. on the shaft; and means for rocking the shaft, when the hangers are locked thereto, thereby to secure a s'winglngmovement of both hangers simultaneously.
2. In'a device of the class described, a main member; a soil-engaging element; means for connecting the soil-engaging element to the main member; a shaft mounted to rock in the main member; a segment fixed to the main member; a collar fixed to the shaft; a lever fixed to the collar and cooperating with the first specified segment; a segment carried by the hanger; a hanger mounted to rock on the shaft; a lever carried by the hanger and cooperating with the segment on the collar; a second collar fixed to the shaft; a second hanger mounted to rock on the shaft; a, segment carried by the second collar; a lever carried by the second hanger and cooperating with the said segment; and ground wheels journaled on the hangers, c
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 15 my own, I have hereto a'lfixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
