WAGON-LOADER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,488, dated June 13, 1905. Application filed August 9, 1904. Serial No. 220,092.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rexville, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in I/Vagon-Loaders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved means for loading a wagon, especially with earth,
fertilizer, taken up loaded by invention wagon.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing the manner of using my device. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective of the front standard. Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing a slight modification, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the scoop.
In the drawings, A represents the body portion of any desired make of wagon. On the forward end portion of the wagon-body A is mounted an upright or standard B, having the cross or T head B. The standard B is slotted below the cross-head, and in the slot is mounted a pulley B A pulley B is carried on the cross-head, being mounted between suitable vertical brackets. Angled metal braces B* are connected at their upper forward ends to the cross-head B, and their lower vertical portions are clamped to the wagon-standards by the clips B, which are secured to the braces by chains B to prevent their being lost or mislaid. The standard B is reduced at its lower end, forming a dowelpin B which is inserted in a suitable aperture in the wagon-body bottom.
An inclined platform D is arranged at the rear end of the wagon, one end resting upon the ground, and, as shown in Fig. 3, the platform D may be provided with sides D, and under the upper end a wedge-shaped piece D is secured, which rests firmly on its under face on the bottom of the wagon-body and is provided with a dowel D engaging an aperand other substances adapted to be by a scoop and which are usually means of shovels, the object of the being to expedite the loading of the ture in the bottom of the wagon. This prevents the platform D becoming accidentally thrown from its adjusted position with refer ence to the wagon.
A scoop E, having a body portion of the usual construction, carries rearwardly-extending parallel handles E, and extending in advance of the scoop and pivoted to the sides of the scoop is a bail E, to which is loosely connected a bracket carrying a pulley E A cable C carries a hook C at one end, which engages a chain or suitable link at the front of the wagon, and the cable (J extends over the pulleys B E and B in the order named, and its free end may be connected to any desired source of poweras, for example, a rotating drum or a swingletree where horsepower is used.
The operation of the device will be obvious. The scoop being loaded is drawn up the incline D onto the wagon-body and is dumped by the handles E.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A Wagon-loader comprising an inclined platform, a wedge-shaped piece carried by the platform, a dowel pin carried by the wedge-shaped piece adapted to lock the platform in position, a scoop, a bail pivotally connected to the scoop, a pulley carried by the bail, and a cable fixed at one end and running over the said pulley, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a wagon-body, an adjustable standard carried by the said body, a cross-head on the standard, braces connected to the cross-head, clips adapted to secure the braces to the wagon-standards, pulleys carried by the standard and cross-head, an inclined platform, a scoop, a pivoted bail carried by the scoop, a pulley carried by the bail, and a cable secured to the wagon and running over the pulleys above mentioned as and for the purpose set forth.
