To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, EDWIN ll. LEAGUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Marshall and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the'following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates to garment supporters, and aims to provide a novel and improved trouser supporter of simple and inexpensive construction, which will be invisible, as it can be worn under the shirt, and which will also serve to efiiciently support the trousers.

Another object is the provision of such a devicewhich has portions to extend from below the lower edge of the shirt onyboth inside and outside thereof, for suspending the trousers in an eiiicient and'practical manner.

A further object is the provision of such a device having means whereby it will also serve to hold down the shirt within the trousers.

A still further object is the provision of a device of the nature indicated which can be cheaply and easily manufactured from sheets of celluloid, metal or other suitable material.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing, wherein Figure 1 is a face view of the supporter.

Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof as applied.

ln'carry-ing out the invention, the supporter is struck from a sheet of celluloid, sheet metal, or other suitable resilient material, and comprises a flat vertical shank or stem 1, the upper end portion of which is enlarged and bifurcated so as to have the laterally spaced upwardly projecting lobes or portions 2 provided with the transverse slots 3 at their upper ends for the attachment of the ends of a shoulder strap or elastic 4., which can extend over the shoulder in the form of a loop, suspending the supporter at the side of the hip. T he recess or slot between the lobes :2 enables said lobes to flex and fit the body.

The device is provided at the opposite edges of the shank or stem 1 with a pair of upwardly extending supporting arms or stems 5, which are also flat, said portions of the device being arranged edge to edge. The lower ends of the shank l and arms 5 merge together, as-at 6, whereby said arms are supported in upwardlyextending position from the lower end of the shank 1 which is suspended from the shoulder strap 4.. The up per end portions of the arms 5 diverge apart upwardly along the diverging edges of the lobes 2, andthe upper ends of said arms have upwardly opening notches or slots 8 for receiving the buttons B which are sewed to the inside of the trousers T.

' In wearing the supporter, one being used at each side of the body at the inside of the trousers, the shirt S extends downwardly between the shank l and arms 5 with said shank extending upwardly on the inner side ofthe shirt so that the shoulder strap or us pender a will be concealed under the shirt.

The arms 5 extend upwardly on the exterior of the shirt within the trousers, so as to be concealed from view, and the butons B of the trousers can be seated in the notches 8, thereby supporting the upper edge of the trousers from the upper ends of the arms 5. The device is preferably shaped or bent so as to fit the side of the body, and the arms 5 will hold the trousers in place, but can flex outwardly for convenience. By wearing a pair of the supporters with a pair of buttons on the interior of the trousers, at each side, engaging the arms 5 at the opposite sides of the shank l, the trousers will be supported at four points in an efficient and conven rnt manner. The shirt extends downwardly between the shank 1 and arms 5 of the supporter, as seen in Fig. 2, so that the supporter extends downwardly underneath the lower edge of the shirt, to avoid injury to or tearing of the fabric.

In order that the device will also hold the shirt down, within the trousers, the lower end portion of the shank 1 is slightly enlarged or widened, so as to have the convexed curved portions 9 at the opposite edges, and the lower end portions of the arms 5 are similarly curved, as at 10. Thus, the slots 11 between the shank l and arms 5 are curved apart at their lower ends. Therefore when the shirt is drawn downwardly in the lower ends of the slots-11, the material will be gripped between the edges of the portions 9 and 10, thereby resisting the material from pulling upwardly. In this way, the ,device'will. also serve to hold the shirt 7 down within the trousers, to avoid the annoyance of the shirt coming out of the lower garment, I

6. A trouser supporter comprising a flat, vertical shank having means at the upper end thereof for suspending it at the inner side of a. shirt, and a pair of flat upwardly extendingarms at the opposite sides of said shank disposed edge to edge therewith, the lower ends of said shank and arms merging together, the upper ends of said arms having means for supporting the trousers, and the adjacent edges of said shank and, arms being cnrvcdat their lower ends for gripping the shirt between them.
