Be it known that I, HUGH B. Prrorrnn, acitizen of the United States, and resident of Boonton, in the county of Morris and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shower- Bath rlrttachinents, hit which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a shower bath fitting constituting an attachment for deinountably connecting a shower bath to the standard bath tub faucets.

In the following description and in the claims, parts will be identified by specific names for convenience of expression but they are intended to be as generic in their application to similar parts as the art will permit.

In the drawings there is shown a depend ing outlet nozzle 4, which may be considered as part 01' the water faucet of the bath-tub or any other similar nozzle to which it is desired to connect th shower bath. The enlarged portion of the bore opens upwardly into abell l I-into which is threaded the lower end of the shower bath supply pipe This portion also opens downwardly into lower bell 15 designed to provide COED- ninnication from the bore 12 either directly into the bath tub or preferably, through a conventional form of depending hose connection l6 threaded into the outer cnd of the bell 15. A horizontally disposed frustoconical valve 17 is fitted into the seat 13 from the outer end of the enlarged portion of the pipe bore. The inner small end of this valve is provided on one side with a curved passageway 18 continuously open endwise to the bore 12 and designed to be rotated into position to face either the opening' through the bell 14 and pipe 5 or to face the opening through the bell 15 and connection 16. The valve is mounted to be r0- tated from one position into theother by means of a valve stem 19 aiiixed to the outer end of which is a handle 20. The valve is demountably held in position by means of a cap 21 threaded on to an extension 22 of 7 the pipe which projects forwardly of the bells. The cap contains the stem 19 which.

is rotatably mounted therein and houses a washer'23 which is disposed between the cap and the outer face of the extension 22.

It is to be understood that the shower bath elements are either permanently attached to the casting, or the attachment as shown 18 sold as a separate member designed the position shown in Fig. 2; should it be desired to run the water directly into the tub, the handle is turned into the position shown in Fig. 1. Rotating the handle will cause the passageway in the valve to open the water supply either to the shower bath or to the tub, or, in an intermediate position both the outlets'are closed.

The broad plate provides a wide spreading support hanging from the bath-tub faucets and the rigid extension of the pipe therefrom provides a secure base for supporting the weight of the shower bath parts 7 without turning strains on the connection.

' By means of a device of this character the shower bath is held'rigldly 1n positlon, even though there areno otherconnections therewith. The body portion of the attachment is a simple casting which can be molded cheaply and which at the same time will have the metal economically disposed to take care of the strains incidental to a device of this character with due regard to the forming of a neat appearance tothis part of the shower bath.

The handle for controlling the valve is placed in advance of the bath-tub faucets,

so that the flow is controlled conveniently to cause the water to flow either into the shower bath or into the tub as desired. By unscrewing the cap holding the'valve in place,

ready access is provided to the valve and to the valve seat so as to permit an easyrregrinding of these parts. 7 The bells and the extension at the forward end of the pipe are designed so'that they may be conveniently threaded in the manufacture of the' attachment. v 1

While I have shown and described, and have pointed out in the annexed claims, certain novel features of my invention, it will be understood that various omissions, 'substitutions'and changes in the form and details of the device illustrated and in its operation may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the-spirit of the 1nvent1on, Y
