IMPROVEMENT IN BIRD-CAGE HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,846, dated November 5, 1872.

This invention relates to an improvement in the bracket or arm known to the trade as a bird-cage hookthat is, a bracket the arm of which terminates in a hook or equivalent deviceand particularly to that class in which the arm is formed from wire, and. with a brace also formed'from wire. The arm and brace have usually been secured by soldering the one to the other. This is liable to break, and
is a somewhat difficult operation to perform. The object of this invention is a better means for securing the brace to the bracket; and it consists in flattening or widening the end of the brace and doubling or bending this widened portion around or onto-the arm of the bracket, clasping the arm with sufficient force to secure the two together.
A is the base of the bracket; B, the arm, terminating in a hook, G; D, the brace. The outer end of this brace is formed, as seen in Fig.2, by means of a suitable device, to spread the metal to sufficient width to grasp the arm B. This flattened end of the brace is folded or bent around the arm, and by dies or other device struck or pressed hard thereon so as to permanently unite the two at that point, as seen in Fig. 1.
I claim as my invention The method herein described of uniting the brace to the bracket-arm of bird-cage hooks.
