DRY BATTERY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 13, 1920.
Application filed January 30, 1919. Serial No. 274,070.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAKIZO YAI, a subject of the Em eror of Japan, and, a resident of No. 2, 1- home, Nishiki-Cho, Kanda-Ku, city of Tokyo, Empire of Japan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dry Batteries, of which the following is a speci-' fica'tion.
This invention relates to improvements in electric batteries of the dry cell type, and relates, more particularly to the means of providing a tight joint between the inner Wall of the outer casing and the gun material with which the open end of the outer casing is to be closed.
The invention consists in the construction,
' combination and arrangement of devices 80 The seal of gum material, preferably ashereinafter shown and described.
The accompanying drawing is an elevation, partly in vertical central section, of a dry battery constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
The outer casing 1 contains the mixture 2 of carbon and hydrogen absorbin material, such for in stance, as a mixture 0 graphite and manganese peroxid. The lining 3 is ofmaterial which is adapted to absorbliquid and the negative plate 4 is placed within the black mixture 2.
phalt, which closes the open end of the outer casing is in accordance with my invention, formed with a circumferential flange 5 which extends therebeyond. The wall of the container is bent against the under and peripheral sides of the said flange 5, as at 6 and is also bent inwardly against the upper side of the seal to partially overlap the same, as shown. Such construction forms a groove in the diametrically enlarged open end portion of the said container wall and in which groove the flange of the seal is contained so that a tight joint is formed between the seal and the container wall. 7
Having thus described myinvention, I'
claim In a dry battery, a container, a mix there- In testimon whereof I aflix my signature in presence 0 .two witnesses.
