Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 13, 1920.
Application filed May 16, 1919. Serial No. 297,454.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAo SNOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picker- Checks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to checks for the picker sticks of looms such as used in weaving textile goods and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a picker check constructed according to this invention, showing also portions of a picker stick andthe lay of a loom. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the picker check. Fig. 3 s a plan view of the picker check. Fig. 4 1s a cross-section through the picker check, taken on the line ie-4c in Fig. 3.
The lay 3 of the loom is of any approved construction, and 2 is a portion of a picker stick which is operated in the usual way.
An inner bracket 5 is secured to the lay,
and is overlapped by an outer bracket 6, said brackets constituting a stationary support. These brackets are secured to the lay by a bolt 7, and the inner bracket 5 has a forked offset guide 8. The outer bracket has an offset guide 9 arranged parallel to the guide 8 and overlapping the gap or space 10 at its middle part. A friction plate 12 of leather is secured to the guide 9, and each bracket has an opening 14: below its bolt hole and above the said guides.
A check loop 15 is slidable in the guides between the friction facing plate and the guide 8, and has buffers 16 secured in its ends for the picker stick to strike aga nst. The loop 15 is preferably somewhat resillent, and the buffers may be plates of leather or other suitable material. One side of the picker loop is preferably formed of a leather strap 17 secured to the hook-shaped end portions of the loop by screws 18.
A brake strap 20 of leather is attached at one end to a projection or other fastening 21 on the outer bracket, and is passed crosswise over the exposed portion of the picker loop in the gap or space 10 of the inner guide, and through the two openings 14 in the two brackets. A projection 24 is formed on the inner bracket, and projects rearwardly through a notch in the outer-bracket. A helical tension spring 25 is attached at one end to the projection 24:, and has its other end connected to the projecting rear end portion of the brake strap. The spring 25 is adjusted to a predetermined tension, and
it holds the brake strap in contact with the picker loop, and presses the picker loop against the facing plate 12. The forked portions of the inner bracket 5 have flanges 26 at their bottom edges for the picker loop to slide on.
The picker stick strikes the buffers at the ends of the picker loop, at the end portions of its travel or oscillation, and slides the longitudinally in the guide and having hook- I shaped end portions, buffers secured in the said end portions, and a strap secured to the said end portions and forming the front side of the picker loop.
2. In a picker check, a stationary support provided with a guide, a picker loop having a side portion of inflexible material which is slidable longitudinally in the guide, a brake supported bythe guide and bearing on the said side portion of the picker loop, and a spring for regulating the pressure of the brake.
3. In a picker check, a stationary support provided with a guide having a gap or space at its middle part, a picker loop slidable longitudinally in the guide, a brake strap having one end portion secured to the said support and bearing on one side portion of the picker loop in the said gap or space, and a tension spring connecting the other end portion of the brake strap with the said support.
4. In a picker check, a stationary support comprising an inner bracket and an outer bracket arranged to overlap each other and provided with guides, each bracket having an opening above the guides and the guide of the inner bracket having a gap or space at its middle part, a picker 100p slidable longitudinally in the said guides, a brake strap having one end portion and bearing on one side portion of the picker loop in the said gap or space and projecting through the openings above the guides, and a tension spring connecting the projecting end portion of the brake strap with the said sup- 10 port.
In testimony whereof I have eflixed my signature.
ISAAC SNOW.
