Description
Oct. 8, 1929. F. GIEHLER SHUTTLE' Filed Deo. 1, 1928 @I gm M Patented Oct. 8, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENToFFlcE FRITZ GIEHLER, OF CHEMNITZ, GERMANY SHUTTLE Application led December 1, 1928, Serial No. 323,001, and .in Germany December 3, 1927.
My invention relates to improvements in I claim:y weavers shuttles, and the object of the im- 4 1. A shuttle, comprising the body, and provenients is to provide a shuttle in which studs projecting laterally from the body and the picking stick acts on studs projecting adapted for engagement by the picking 5 from the side of the shuttle, and preferably sticks. 55 from the front side thereof. When dispos- 2. A shuttle, comprising the body, means ing the said studs on the front side of the for supporting the spool mounted on said shuttle they are located between the bearings body, and studs projecting laterally from of the spool and the points of the shuttle. By said body and located between said means thus operating the shuttle itis not necessary and the ends of the body. f 60 to reinforce the points of the shuttle, and In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my yet the said points` are not subject to wear. signature.
Further, spoiling` of the goods by oil from l FRITZ GIEHLER. the picking' stick is avoided.
For the purpose of explaining the inven- 65 tion an example embodying the same has been shown in the accompanying drawing, in which the same letters of reference have been used in all the views to indicate corresponding parts. In said drawing, 70
Fig. l, is an elevation of the shuttle, and
Fig. 2, is a plan view thereof.
In the example shown in Fig. 1 the shuttle is provided at its front side with studs 701, 702 located between the bearings of the spool and 75 the ends of the shuttle. In Fig. l I have shown one of the picking sticks acting on the stud 702` the said stick being operated from a cam e through the intermediary of a tongue e carri-ed by the stick. The shuttle is pro- 80 vided at its top and bottom sides with the f usual longitudinal grooves 011 and r2 by means of which it is guided while flying through the shuttle-race. Conventional means may be provided for journalling the spool within the shuttle, one form of such means being` indicated at p in the drawing. It will be noted that the studs 701 and 702 are disposed between 40 the supporting means 79 and the ends of the shuttle. 90
The studs 701 and 702 are fixed to the body of the shuttle. In the operation of the shuttle the picking sticks s strike on the studs 701L and n 702. Thus no blow is exerted on the points of 95 the shuttle, so that reinforcing of the said points is not necessary.
The spools are mounted on the front side rof the shuttle, the figures showing the usual peg p. 100
