GARMENT.
Application filed May 2, 1917.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH GREENLEAF, a citizen of the United States, residingA at Atlanta, county of Fulton, State ot Georgia, have invented certain new and useful lm provements in Garments, orn which the following' is a specification.
This invention relates to garments, particularly to overalls, and its object is to provide an article of this class in which the supporting` means comprises a pair of suspenders or shoulder straps detachably tastened to the body ot the garment in front, in the usual manner, and so secured to the rear portion of the garment body that the strain in the `fabric due to the pull et the Suspenders is well distributed instead of being excessive in one or two small portions, as in the garments of this character which have heretofore been suggested.
r)The invention will be fully disclosed in the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which the garment is shown in perspective.
The body 10 of the garment is made in the usual manner with the exception of the rear upper portion 1l which tapers upwardly from the side openings to a point on the seat seam 12. The diagonal edges 13, 13 ot the tapering portion 1l are so inclined that the prolonged portions 1+i, '14 ot the crossed suspender or shoulder straps 15, 15 lie therealong and are secured thereto by stitching. In this way the two strips of material comprising the shoulder straps also form the rear waist band.
The great advantage to be derived from this manner ot construction over former constructions, where the shoulder straps were both fastened to the body at the seat seam or where they were crossed and fastened at two distinct points, is that the pull ot the shoulder straps is taken up by the Specification of Letters Patent.

fabric of the rear upper portion of the body all of the way along the extended portions le, 1d or waist band, and thus the garment is much stronger in this respect, and :Ear more comfortable to the user, than the ones heretofore in use.
itt will be noted that the Suspenders continue along` natural lines from their point ot intersection to the side seams or side portions 0iu the garment and that the upper edges ot the rear portion of the garment extend inwardly and upwardly from the side seams or side portions and meet at an angle at the intersection of the Suspenders. The Suspenders are connected to these edges and term a binding and inish therefor and the weight and strain upon the rear part of the garment is distributed evenly from side to side thereof. The portions ot the suspenders below the intersection are preterably of the same width as the other portions, giving the impression 'ot continuous suspenders extending from the side seams over the shoulders.
Having thus described the invention7 what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
