To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Grumo BEER and Ammo TEDEsoo, subjects of the King of Italy, and residents of Turin, Italy, joint executors of MICHELE N. SALVATI, deceased, late of Turin, Italy, do hereby declare that said MICHELE N. SALVATI did in his lifetime invent certain new and useful Improvements in Connecting-Pieces for Attaching Wires and Uprights to Bars in Aeroplane Structures, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object an improved type of connecting piece for attaching wires and uprights in aeroplane structures in which the bars are formed of metal section members.

The piece according to this invention consists of a plate which on one side is provided with eyes for connecting therewith wires and uprights and on the other side is so shaped as to be hooked to flanges of the section member forming the bar, a strong engagement of the piece and bar being thus obtained.

The annexed drawing shows by way of example two constructions of the connecting piece according to thisinvention; Figure 1 shows a type of piece adapted to double T section members having flat flanges and Fig. 2 shows a type of connecting piece for double-T section members with round flanges.

As shown by the drawing, the connecting piece comprises a plate 1 having solid with its upper surface an eye 2 for securing thereto the sleeve 3 of upright a and a number of eyes 5 which are properly arranged and directed according to requirements, the same being intended to be connected with wires 6.

In any case the lower surface of the plate must conform with the shape of the section member to which it is adapted and is provided with side upturned portions 7 adapted to be strongly engaged or hooked with edges of said section member.

Thus in the construction illustrated in Fig. 1 in which the section member forming the bar is a double T one having flat flanges provided with edge ribs, the edge portions of plate 1 are spaced to follow the contour of said flanges and are provided with a hook 7 intended to engage said ribs; in the case shown in Fig. 2 the section member has its flanges shaped to be inclosed within a round or arch-shaped line and plate 1 has a corresponding shape or chamber with an up turned edge or hook 7 to engage edges of said flanges.

Generally speaking, whatever is the particular type of section member used, the connecting piece according to this invention is provided on its edges with upturned portions intended to be hooked or engaged with two flanges of said section member.

By the described construction the amount of metal required to form the connecting piece and therefore the weight thereof are reduced and at the same time a very strong engagement of the connecting piece with the bar is obtained, the same being due both to engagement of its upturned edges and to perfect adherence thus obtained between the internal surface of the piece and the enter one of bar flanges.

What we claim as the invention and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. A connecting piece for attaching wires and uprights to section bars of aeroplane structures, consisting of a plate provided with a surface shaped to conform with and seat on surface of the bar flanges and having upturned side portions adapted to engage the edges of said flanges, means being provided on the opposite surface of said plate to connect wires and uprights therewith.

2. A connecting piece for attaching wires and uprights section bars of aeroplane structures, consisting of a plate provider with surfaces shaped to conform with and seat on surfaces of the bar flanges and having upturned side portions adapted to en gage edges of said flanges, eyes being pro vided on the opposite surface of said plate to connect wires and uprights therewith.
