IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FENCESK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,534, dated October 29, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEO. H. HUME, of Paola, in the county of Miami and in the State of Kansas, have invented an Improvement in Portable Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specilication, in 'Which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved portable 'ence. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, showing the manner of connection of the corner panels.
The nature of my invention consists in the manner of connecting the panels of a portable fence with the supporting-trestles, and also in the method of connecting the corner panels, all of which is so fully explained in the ensuing description and claim as to need no preliminary recital more specific than that given.
rIhe fence illustrated in the annexed drawing consists of panels made of boards and trestles placed transversely between the adjacent ends of. the several panels, except at the corners, where said trestles are dispensed with. Each panel A, other than the corner panels, is constructed at each end with a stile, A',
having perforations coa bored through it upon the side of the panel. These holes a correspond with similar holes b b bored through the trestle B, respectively, on top, at the junction or lap of the legs, and through the cross-bar B,midway between the legs. Pins C, of wood or other material, are employed to secure the panels and trestles together in setting up a fence, as clearlyY illustrated in Fig. l. The stile A at one end of one of the corner panels is nailed iatwise to the boards, so that such end of the panel can be inserted between the strips or bars A1 and A2 of the adjoining end of the other corner panel. ,Corresponding holes are bored through the bars Al and A2, and the end of the panel fitting between them, for the reception of pins C to complete the connection.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved corner -joint for fence-panels, consisting of the horizontal rails A provided with the battens A1 A2 A3 and fastening-pin G, substantially as shown and described.
