. Cross Reference I SAMUEL WALD, OF NEW N. Y.
' DETERGENT.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL WALD, "a citizen of Hungary, but having declared my intention of becomin a citizen of the United States, and a resi ent of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Detergent, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to compositions of matter and has particular reference to deterreference to the compounding of a detergent comprising several ingredients of a relatively strong character but the same beingassociated or mixed with other ingredients having the facility of so tempering or modifying the characteristics of said stronger agents as to render them safe in use but without detracting materially from their efe' ficiency as dirt and grease destroyers.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the improved composition of matter herein set forth comprises a number of distinct ingredients and while I specify herein the specific ingredients and the several com-' ponent proportions I wish to be understood that for some of the specified ingredients others having similar characteristics may be substituted under certain conditions without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The several ingredients and the propory tions thereof that I have discovered by a .long and careful series ofexperiments are as follows, by weight as in pounds:

The chlorid of lime is a bleaching agent causing the liberation of nascent'chlorin. The borax serves to soften the wash water, tem strength of the potas or its tendency to damage the fabrics, and also prevents the development of unpleasant or dangerous fumes. The soap is useful in the formation of suds and for acting upon certain charac ters of dirt or grease not reached by the other ingredients. The potassium carbonate, ammo or ammonium carbonate, and the like as well-as the sodaash are all useful for dissolving the fatty deposits and dirts of vari ous kinds. I
In the assemblage of these several ingrers or modifies the dients and the mixing thereof I take the ingredients severally and in the order in which they are indicated in the above tabulation mixing the first with the second and then the mixture with the third and so on, adding at each time the component having the next or other results and also insure the most thorough intermin ling of the several ingredients. All of t e components employed are of a dry bulk or pulverulent nature and so -the final composition isposessed of the same characteristics. After being mixed the composition issuitably packaged, labeled,
' and ready for the market and use. Directions accompany the same indicating the amount of the compound in a prescribed quantity of water. The cleansing is almost instant and requires no labor on the part of I the laundress and the clothing or fabrics may be w out from the wash water and after. being rmsed present a most sa-tisfac tory and pleasing appearance without danger of injuring the-most delicate fabrics.
Instead of using this compound in the pulverulent form some of the users thereof prefer it in'block or solid form which may easily be pre ared by injecting into the mixture a sma quantity of alcohol and subjecting the comiosition to. high pressure in pound com rising the following ingredients molds or the li a 1n pulveru ent form thoroughly mixed to- I claim: gether in the 'order and relative quantities 1.
