Description

C S. KENDRICK AND A. T. CURRY.
GAS BURNER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR-16, 19w. RENEWED APR.23, 1919.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFIC CHARLES S. KENDRICK AND ARTHUR '1. CURRY, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent,
, Patented Dec. 2, 1919.
Application filed March 16, 1918, Serial No. 222,822. Renewed April 23, 1919. Serial No. 292,244.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES S. KEN- DRICK and ARTHUR T. CURRY, citizens pf the United States, residing at Dayton, 1n the coun y of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the fOllOWlDfl' is a s eclficatlon.
Our invention relates to new and useful improvements in gas burners such as are used for heating and cooking purposes. The object of the said improvements is to provide a gas burner of'inaximum efiiciency which is attainable through the particular construction of the burner parts. This particular construction is aimed at the avoidance of any obstructing surfaces that might offer any resistance to an easy flow of the'gas. The construction has further in view an easy cleaning of the burner all of which will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings. Of said drawings Figure 1. is a top plan view of our improved burner. Fig. 2 is aside elevation showing the gas feed pipe and the mixer connected. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a detail section showing a portion of the burner feed pipe, and the mixer as well as the service pipe which feeds the mixer.
In a. detail description of our invention similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts as they appear in the drawmgs.
The center piece or head 1 of the burner has its interior surface rounded as at 9 to provide the least possible resistance to the passage of gas which enters the bottom of said head. The head has five screw-threaded apertures. The screw-threaded aperture 16 in the lower side of said head receives the short inlet pipe 8 which through a curved fitting 10 connect with the burner feed pipe 11. The remaining screw-threaded openings 17 are horizontal and connected therein are four hollow burner arms 2. The top side of the head has two exit burner slots 4: which cross and provide the center of the burner with the proper gas exits. The arms 2 have for a portion of their lengths a series of straight cross slots 5 and another series of slanting slots 6 which taper outwardly and spread the flame outwardly toward the ends of the burner arms 2. The ends of said arms 2 are closed with caps 3 which are screwed thereon and in these ca s there are outwardly tapered gas slots The caps 3 are detachable in order to clean the burner arms when necessary, and the arms themselves are detachable in order to clean body of the burner when necessary. The gas enters the body of the burner in proper mixture. It has been found by experience that the mixer should be located some distance from the burner, therefore, the feed pipe 11 is of a suitable length to enable this accomplishment. The mixer 12, which i of flaring form, is secured to the entrance end of the feed pipe 11. Into the mixer the gas is discharged immediately from the service pipe 15 and nozzle 13, an intervening valve 14:
controlling the passage.
Having described our invention we claim: A burner of the type specified comprising a head having a series of screw-threaded apertures, the upper surface thereof being of rounded form and provided wlth cross gas exit slots, a feed pipe connected with the tures.
