- HENRY R. GOGAY, on ooLUMBUs, OHIO, ASSIGNOR T0 SOLAR METAL PRODUCTS COMPANY, INC. v
HOLLOW METAL DooR F RAME.
To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, HENRY; R. Grocer, a subject of the Crown ofGreat Britain, and resident of Columbus,- in the county of Franklinv and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hollow Metal Door-Frames, of which the following is aspecification.
In the manufacture ofhollow metal door frames it has heretofore been impracticable to complete the door frame'until the strike plate to be used in connection therewith .was known, thus preventing the stocking up of a large supply ofdoor frames and also requiring a special set of dies and tools for each particular size and style of strike plate. I
. The object of my invention is to produce a type of hollow metal door frame which may be completed in large quantities irrespective of the size and style ofstrikeplate to be used, thus materially reducing the cost of manufacture andalso permitting the rapid filling of orders from stock. These results are accomplished by blanking out the door janib to fit a standard size sub-holder, the
sub-holder'in turn beingblanked out to fit the particular strik plate to be used.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 represents in face view, a portion of a door frame with my invention applied thereto. r
Fig. 2 is a section taken in the plane of the line IIII of Fig. l. I
Fig. 3 is a section taken in the plane of the line IIIIII of Fig. 2, and
Fig. f is a section taken in the plane of the The door jamb l is blanked out to fit a sub-holder 2 of sufiicient size to fit any required strike plate, and the sub-holder itself is in turn blanked. out to fit the particular strike plate 3' intended for use with its particular door frame. preferably of channel form and it is secured to the door jain'b by providing upper and.
holder. Screws 5 are provided for securing the top and bottom of the sub-holder to the said clips 4.

holder by providing the sub-holder with clips .6 permanently secured to the subholder, as for instance, by welding at suitable points asindicated by the dotted circles 6*, which clips have portions overlapping the top and bottom of the strike plate. Screws 7 serve to secure the top and bottom of the strike plate to the said clips.
In. applying the strike plates to the door frame, the sub-holder is blanked out to fit the particular strike plate tobe used, the clips 6 are secured to the sub-holder and afterthe strike plate has been fitted to the blanked out portion of the sub-holder, the screws 7 serve to fasten the strike plate to the subholdcr. The sub holder is then fitted into the blanked outportion of the door jamb and the screws 5 are used for securing the.
sub-holder .in position.
I While I. have shown the invention as ap plied to the attachment of any size and style of strike plate to a door frame, it is obvious that the same may beused in connection 7 blanked out to fit the sub-holder, and means for securing the strike plate to the subholder.
2. In a hollow metal door frame arranged to receive strike plates of various sizes and styles, a channel-shaped sub-holder blanked out to fit a particular strike plate, the jamb being blanked out to fit the sub-holder, and means for securing the strike plate to the sub-holder.
3. In a hollow metal door frame arranged to receive strike plates of various sizes and styles, a sub-holder blanked out to fit a particular strike plate, the j amb being blanked out to fit the sub-holder, and means for securing the sub-holder to the jamb.
. 4. .In a hollowmetal' door frame arranged to receive strike plates of various sizesand being blanked out to fit the sub-holder, and
styles, a channel-shaped sub holder blanked out to fit a particular strike plate, the j amb means for securing the-sub-holder to the jamb. I
5. In a hollow'inetal door frame arranged to receive strike plates of various sizes and styles, a sub-holder blanked out .'-to fit a particular strike plate, the jainb being blanked outito fit the sub-holder and means.- I
for securing the strike plate to the sub- 7 holder and the sub-holderto the jamb; 10
to receive strike plates otvarious sizes-and 6. In a hollow metal door frame arranged styles, a channel-shaped sub-holde r -blanke'd out to fit a particular strike plate, the jainb being blanked outto fit the sub-holder,- and means for securing the strike plate to the sub-holder and thesubho'lder to the .j'ainb.
7 In "a hollow metal door frame arranged to receive strike plates of various sizes and styles, a sub-holder blanked out to fit a particular strike pla-te, the ainb being blanked out to fit the sub-holder, clips carried by the" subdiolder overlapping the strike plate and screws for securing the strike plate to the clips.
8. Ina hollow metal door frame arranged 'to-receive strike plates of various sizes and styles, a channel-shaped'sub holder blanked out to fit a particular strike plate, the jrllllb I beingblaiiked out to fit'the sub-holder, clips carried by the sub-holder overlapping the ticular strike plate, the ainb beingblanked outto fitthe sub-holder, clips carried by the 1' b o l ppin th s bolder'andzscr vfor securing the sub-holder to the clips.
10. In a hollow meta-1 door. frame arranged toy-"receive strike plates of various 7 sizes and styles, channel-shaped suba liolderxblanked out tofit a particujlar strike e plate, the jarnbbeing blanked out tofitfthe. I sub-holder;- clips-carried byLthe j anib Over lapping the sub-holder andiscre vs f or securing the sub-'liolderjto the clips.
11. In a hollow metal 'doorffraniei 'arranged a m/ewe strike plates ofjvarious sizes andstyles, a sub-holder blanked out to fit a' particular-strike plate, the j arnb being blanked out to fit the sub-holder, clips cartried by thesub-holder and jalnb I overlapping the strike plate and" sub h'old'er respectively,-"andscrews for securing the strike plateto its clips-fandtlie-sub holdert it clips.

Iirtestiinonythat I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed'iny name this 10th day of August,-1917.- c p I V fI-IENRY necrosis.
