'Be it known that I, EDWARD H. ST. CLAIR, residing at Paris Station, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Detachable-Tooth Combs, of which the following is a specification. V

This invention relates generally to combs, and particularly combs constructed in such manner as to permit of the teeth being detached from the body portion for the purpose of cleaning or repair.

The primary object of the invention is. to provide a comb of that type which includes a body portion and removable teeth, wherein the construction is such as to permit of the teeth being readily removed from the body and assembled therewith, and wherein there is provided improved means for holding the teeth rigid with the said body portion.

A further object of the invention is to provide a comb or": the character mentioned which is constructed in such manne as to at all times maintain the teeth in proper-alinement and spaced apart the required distance, which may be constructed or produced at low cost, which comprises but very few simple and readily assembled parts, which has its various parts so assembled as to minimize the opportunity for breakage either of the body or teeth, and which will prove thoroughly practical and efiicient in use.

With these objects in view, together with others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel formation, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as will be described more fully hereinafter, illustrated in the drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, 6 represents the body portion of the improved comb, and to which are detachably secured the teeth 7. The body 6 in the preferred embodiment of the invention comprises an elongated tubular member as shown, having one end closed permanently by a head 8 and the other end closed by the removable cap 9. This cap has projecting inwardly from the center thereof a rod 10 which is adapted-at its free end to engage in a suitable opening in the head 8. The teeth 7 in this form of the invention are provided at their inner ends with apertures 11 to receive the rod 10, and it will be under stood that the apertures will be disposed in the teeth 7 at such points that the free ends of the teeth will be properly alined. The body or tubular member 6 is provided with a longitudinal series of spaced apertures through which the teeth 7 project, and it is preferred that these apertures be of such size as to snugly accommodate the comb teeth.

In 3 of the drawings there is shown a slightly modified form of the invention, and wherein the rod 10 is arranged eccentrically within the tubular member, and is adapted to engage in notches 12 in the edges of the teeth 7. In other respects the structure is similar to that shown in the preferred embodiment.

In Fig. 5 of the drawings there is a further modification of the invention, and wherein the rod 10 is cut away so as to provide an angular edge adapted to engage within the notch 13 in the comb tooth 7, the latter having a sharp shoulder as shown to be engaged by the angular edge of the rod 10. i

In this form of the invention, the upper ends of the teeth will be rounded, and the rounded portions will be threaded to engage within the threaded apertures in the From the foregoing it is obvious that I have provided a comb which is of extremely simple construction and which may be readily cleaned or repaired when required. When. it is desired to remove the teeth of the device shown in the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is but necessary to unscrew the cap 9 and withdraw the rod 10 from the interior of the tube, and the teeth 7 may be easily withdrawn from the said body. After the teeth have been cleaned or repaired, they may be readjusted to the body and by inserting the rod 10 in the openings in the various teeth, the latter will be locked securely in proper position. The operation of the devices shown in Figs. 3 and 5 are similar, and in the device shown in Fig. 4, the various teeth are separately removable.

It is obvious that by the use of a comb of this character the same may be at all times kept in a sanitary condition, and should any of the teeth become broken or distorted they may be easily replaced by new teeth.

\Vhile the present is a disclosure of what is believed to be the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto, as various changes in the minor details of construction, proportion, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to if desired without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

I claim 1. In a comb, a tubular body, the said body being provided with a plurality of spaced apertures, teeth having their inner ends engaged in said apertures, each of said teeth being provided at its inner end with an annular notch, a screw cap closing one end of said body, and a rod projecting inwardly from said screw cap and adapted to be engaged in the notches in the inner ends of said teeth.

In a comb, a tubular body, a head clos ing one end of said body and being provided with an opening, the said body being pro vided with a plurality of spaced apertures, comb teeth seated in said apertures, each tooth having a groove, a screw cap closing the opposite end of said body, a rod secured to said screw cap and resting at its free end in the opening in said head, and the said rod adapted to be engaged in the notches in the teeth. 1

3. In a comb, a body having apertures therein, a rod extending centrally through said body, teeth projecting through said apertures, the said teeth being provided at their inner ends with notches, and the said rod being engaged in said notches.

4. A comb including a tubular body having a series of spaced apertures therein, said apertures being alined longitudinally of said tubular member, comb teeth seatedin said apertures and each of said teeth having an annular groove near the inner end thereof, a screw cap closing one end of said tubular member, and a rod secured to said screw cap and extending centrally into said tubular member and engaged in the. notches in the inner ends of said teeth.
