Description

G. D. WANNER.
RITE. APPLICATION map JUNE 2B. 1919 Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
J'iwendo-n I Gergeflmzmen till GEORGE l), VVAlllNElit, Hit? a nitri '1 '0 all 'IIILO/IL it may concern:
lie it known that I, (inonon l). lVANNicR,
idtwtcs, residing at,
a citizen ot'thc United Dayton, in the county of lilontnotncny and i itate of (lhio. have invented certain new and useful lin 'irovemcnts in Kites, oi which the Following inn" had therein tothe accompanying drawing. 1 a
This invention relates to improvements in kites and has for its object to provide a kite of relatively simple and substantial construction which can be produced at relatively low cost and which will be ofa construction convenient for boxing or tobe put up in compact packages or bundles suitable for quantity shipping and stocking;
To this end my invention; consists o-l an improved K. I). kite, that is to say, a kite adapted to he disassei'nhled, or partially so, for packing and ship ping. and which may be readily and eti'eetually assembled by aioy hoy without possibility of failure to fly properly. i
A particularobjectof my invention is to provide a kite which may he n'iade and sold cheaply, but which will nevertl'icless he substantial and in all respects admirably adapted for its purposes.
These features of relatively low cost and duraliilityare of first importance in this art in view of the fact that kites, generally speaking, because of their delicate construction and the average condition. under which tl'iey are flown. are short lived A few cents rcduction in the price at which they may he purchased therefore amounts to a suhdifference when n'ieasured by the trading capital oil 'llllt stantial limited finances or average hoy.

Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 28.1919,

Fig.1; "7 is a detail iiie w showing the method of adjustahly shoum in tli kite consists of right stick 1, a cro inp; cord and a turns constitute tl kite, and, general connectin tofthc hrullc string.
the
m the bridle loop e drawings, my llt'lPIOVCXl usual features or an no or how stick 9, a bound how cord 'llhese tea 1e frame structure oi. the ly speaking, are substantially likethe corres 'ionding features OHlliG usual well known construction of kites.
The crossstiek is connected to the upright stick, over and between disposedsticks, and a. the kite trainc thus defined in the "bounding cord ,3f'extends the ends oi the oppositely cover 1s secured. to the usual nianner except witlrregard to certain iilih noted t'eatnrcs solidified in detai t,
Tllo provide for it'liich will now he de conronieiit disconnecting;-
ol the cross stick iuriin the upright sticlr and the cords 3 and ii secured n W ft,the cords are pro (l adapted to engage nns posits ends oi the cross sticks as hoist shown in Fig. 5. The cross i stick is detaclialiily connected taple guide by means oil a s pron 's extending: ci'oss stick and project show discon pins i" i it he W i thdrawn kilo will "thereby be cell 1 the how stick ahout the stickslo through. the end thereof being ck, the kite cover to the upright 8 having its edgesoi the upright, the clenched, as
on opposite necting the loops 6 from the cross stick may read from the guide it and the apsed, and, by placlengthwise of the upright may he wrapped closely in jitudinally of its length,
to; shown in llig. a
The opposite ends of the sprig 1i; stick are provided respectively with a s otltl and a pin ll. 'lllhe hounding cord 3 is tied to the pin ll suhstantially centrally between the ends 0f the lens ated, and
. e cord loci i opposite eaten mid its free ends 'il'iifi. the cord by ham ord passing cross stick, the opposite 15-5 oi? the cord being looped over the oi the how stick, as tied as at 12, one length fully through the slot, no;- secured to the pin 11,- sionsmay be drawn taut tied as stated, thus coinoutline or frame of the he" cover 5 may then be secured to mg its edges tolded over til tltl
lilil lltl the cord and pasted down, as indicated at 12 in Flg. 1.
A bridle 13, as here shown, secured to the upright stick by upper and lower pics 5 14 and 15, the staples being ibstantiahy the same and secured the "in ht in the same manner as the staple 8.
The brindle spring loop 16 adjust-ably secured thereto, as best shown in Fig. 8, by- 10 encircling the string with the I passing one end of the loop throne-h the loop, then bounding and bow cords at one end of the Iv stick only, the connections at the op i te end being of any suitable character; that in place of the slot 10 any other able means may be provided to connect bounding cord adjustably to the lower end of the upright stick.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to cure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. In a kite, a frame comprising an upright stick and a cross stick, and a boundin; cord secured to one end of said upright. adjustahly connected to the opposite end thereof and looped intern'iediate its connections to the upright. stick over pins secured in the ends of the cross stick.
2. In a kite, a frame comprising an upright stick and a cross stick, and a hounding cord fixed to one end of said upright and passing: freely through a slot formed in the opposite end thereof being looped intermediate its connections to the upright stick over pins secured in the opposite ends oi the cross stick.
3, In a. kite, a frame. comprising an upright stick and a cross stick detuchahly secured thereto by a staple secured in said no right, a. bounding cord secured to the frame.
.and looped over pins secured in the opposite ends of the cross stick, \yhcrehy hy discon necting said loop from said end the cross stick may be detached from the upright stick.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
