Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,177, dated October 15, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GILBERT HENRY PRIN- DLE, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Apparatus for the Manufacture of Spreads, Shawls, Scarfs, and other Apparel, &c., of which the following is a specification:

from a cap-string to a bed-quilt.
After the frame being joined together the proper size desired, the Zephyr or yarn is Wound to and fro across the frame, passing over and around two of those metallic pins till one course is completed, after which the process is continued in the same manner lengthwise of the frame, and then again crosswise, until several courses are-completed both ways and sufficient body or thickness is obtained. Each of these crossings is then tied with a fine'thread or cord by means of a small shuttle, after which about ninety per cent. of the yarn midway from the crossin gs, both lengthwise and crosswise, is clipped with a pair of scissors. It then being rubbed with the handin a circular motion, it forms a very handsome fringe ball at each crossing.
The object of my invention is to manufacture avery beautiful goods to apply to spreads, shawls, scarfs, tidies, hoods, fringe, muffs, leggings. and other apparel.
