Description

A. J. MARSHALL.-
Gage for Folding BiHsf No. 132,166. Paremed 0ct.15,1s72.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'ADONIRAM JUDSON MARSHALL, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAGES FOR FOLDING BILLS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AEONIRAM J UDsoN MARSHALL, of Buifalo, in the county of Erie and State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Graduated Bill and Letter Folders, of which the following is a speciiication:
This invention relates to a device for folding bills, letters, invoices, and other papers, for ling away; and consists in attaching to a single bent piece of tin, making one width or graduation, a hinged and double adjustable leaf, so that increased width of folding ma be had or not, as desired.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view with the auxiliary leaf thrown back; Fig. 2 is an end elevation, showing the device tobe used for the large size; and Fig. 3 is a similar View, showing the intermediate size.
A is apiece of tin or other sheet metal, bent in the form shown, one side made shorter than the other. This forms a bill-folder of the smaller size. This is accomplished by merely placing the bill or other paper in the recess a, and then turning that part which projects 'over the edge b over upon A, and then removing it, thus insuring each paper being folded exactly the same width.
To enable the device to be used for papers of greater width, I hinge to the back of the shorter side of Av an oblong Wire-loop, c, and also to a leaf or auxiliary folder, d. This leaf d is hinged above the middle, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, so that one side, e, is longerv than the side j'.
This arrangement will be found very useful,
as it allows the folding or ling of papers to three different widths, an important considera.
tion in counting houses and offices, doing the work of three separate folders. It is simple in construction, cannot get out of order, and can be very cheaply constructed.
The auxiliary leaf d, graduated to two widths by means of the hinged loop c, hinged to and in combination with the bent metal folder A, arranged and operating in the manner and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing A. J. MARSHALL.
' witnesses.
