FLASH LIGHT.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 14, 1918.
HERBERT H. HUTCHINGS, OF ARLINGTON, JERSEY.
FLASH-LlIGET.
Applicauon filed March 14, 1918. Serial No. 222,421.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT H. HUTOH- INGS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Arlington, in the county of Hudsonand State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Flash-Light, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descri tion.
T is invention relates to flashlights, and has for its general objects to provide means for preventing the weight of the battery from acting on the central contact of the lamp bulb and breaking the bulb loose from the screw base of the lamp, damaging the filament or breaking the cement of the central contact.
A more specific object of the invention is the provision of a novel means within the case of the flashlight for the battery to bear against the same, whereby the said means supports the weight of the battery when the flashlight is inverted.
With such objects in view, and others which will appear as thedescription 'proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claim,
appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing the figure isa sectional view of a flashlight showing an embodiment of the invention.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the shell or casing of the flashlight, 2 a battery therein, 4 the incandescent lamp, 5 the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
reflector,6 the lens. These parts are of usual construction, so that a detailed description thereof is unnecessary.
In the casing 1 is a sleeve 7 of insulation which is of such length as to extend from the battery to the shoulder 18 of the reflector so that the said sleeve will form an annular shoulder against which the battery bears. On the sleeve is a contact composed of spring members 13 and '14 which are interposed between the central terminal 15 of the battery and the central terminal 16 of the lamp. The sleeve or outer terminal 11 of the lamp is grounded on the metallic disk 10 against which bears'a metallic strip or contact. 9 leading to -the push button or switch of the flashlight. l
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: E
A flashlight comprising a casing, a battery therein, a reflector in the casing, a lamp carried by the reflector, a sleeve of insulation having a uniform internal diameter larger than the reflector, whereby the sleeve surrounds the reflector and extends-to the 1 battery to form an internal shoulder against which the battery bears, means for connectin one terminal of the lamp with one ter-. mlnal of the battery, and means carriedtby
