This invention relates to portable electric lamps and more especially to pocket flashlights of the tubular type.
An object of this invention is an eificient and inexpensive flashlight of this type having a novel switch and bulb arrangement.
According to this invention, a plug is inserted in one end of the tubular casing and insulatingly supports a contact member which engages one end of the battery. A second contact member is slidably supported by the plug in position to be moved into and out of engagement with the first contact member, and a button is arranged on the exteriorof the plug for actuating the second contact member. At the other end of the casing there is provided a tubular head within which is permanently supported a reflector having an integral socket for receiving a bulb.

The flashlight comprises a tubular casing 10, one end of which is threaded a tubular head 11. A reflector 12 is arranged within' the head 11 and is permanently joined thereto. The inner portion of the reflector terminates in a threaded socket into which is received the base of a bulb 13, the bulb being wholly contained within the head.
A plug 14 closes the other end of the casing 10 and has a metal button 15 slidably connected thereto. Within the plug there is provided a contact member 16 which is connected to the slide or button 15 for unitary movement therewith. The inner end of the plug 15 supports a disk 17 of insulating material to which a metal cup 18 is secured by a rivet 19. A spiral spring 20 has one end arranged in the cup 18 and its other end engages the base of a battery 21 to hold the same with its central electrode in contact with the base of the bulb 13.
The contact member 16 is movable into and out of engagement with the rivet 19 to close and open the circuitthrough the filament of the bulb 13. A clip 22 is attached to the caslng 10 by rivets 23. This clip serves to support the flashlight in an upright position in a pocket with the above the edge of ment of clip and slide prevent accidental lighting of the flashlight when the same is being carried in the pocket;
This flashlight is especially adapted for use by doctors and'dentists, but is also of general utility. It is of sufliciently small diameter that it may be easily carried in the same manner as a fountain pen, and isof sufficient strength and stability to withstand severe handling.
It is of course understood that various modifications may be made in the structure above described, without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A pocket flashlight comprising a tubular casing, a plug closing one end of said casing and having an inwardly projecting flange, an insulating disk supported by the inner end of said flange, a metallic cup, a metallic fastener extending through said insulating member and attaching the cup thereto, a spring seated in said cup, and a contact member slidably mounted on the plug for reciprocation transverse to the axis of the casing, said contact member being movable into and out of engagement with the fastener.
