My invention relates to ashlights, containing batteries enclosed in a casing, and it consists in the novel features, which are hereinafter more fully described.
One of the objects of my improvment is to reduce the number of parts of theflashlight, thereby reducing the cost of the same. Another object o'f -my improvement isto eliminate from the sides of flashlights. the lshifting -devices, which are employed for making and breaking the circuit of the ashlight.
A further object of m improvement isto preventthe accidenta closing of the cir-v 15 cuit in flashlights.
Anotherobject of my improvement isto eliminate :from the flashlight the lamp socket with the-internal thread in it.
Another object of my invention is-to provide'a ashlight with a spring, which has a part on it, which is so constructed as to engage a screw-thread on the stem of a suitabie lamp of said ashliglit and to'replace a socket with an internal thread therein.

Many ot ier changes may be made in the design of my flashlight without departing from the main scope of my invention, and parts of my inventlon may be used without other parts.
I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the details as shown in the drawings; butI intend to' include also all mechanical equivaylents` and obvious modifications of the same within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention and desire 'to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a {iashlight a casing, enclosing batteries and comprising an upper part and a ao lower part, a lamp, a' threaded stem thereon,
an opening in said upper part, for said stem to pass therethrough, and a spring, for separating said'batteries from said stem, said spring having thereon one or more coils, to fit between the threads on said stem, there- Aby keeping said lamp in position.
2. In a flashlight a casing, enclosing batteries and comprising a lower part and an thereon an end in abutment with said upper l part, another end in abutment with said batteries and an intermediate part, to lit between the threads on said stem, thereby keeping said lamp in position.

In a flashlight a casing, to enclose batteries, an upper part thereon, a refieetor, made integral with said part, a lamp, a threaded stem thereon, an opening in said upper part, for said stem to pass therethrough, and a spring for separating said batteries from said stem, said spring having l thereon one or more coils, to fit between the threads on said stem, thereby keeping said lamp in position.
