To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PETER A. BRoUIL- LETTE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sioux City, in the county of VVoodbury and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Box Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The invention contemplates an improved holder for match-boxes of the telescoping t" e.

inother object of the invention is the production of a telescoping match-box holder adapted to be readily mounted on the steering-wheel or steering-column of a motor-vehicle, and hold the match-box securely yet instantly accessible to the driver.

Still another object of the invention is the production of a match-box holder inexpensive and simple in construction, yet thoroughly durable and dependable in operation.

With these and other objects in View, the invention, consisting in the construction, combination and novel arrangement of parts, will be fully understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, of which;-

Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan of a motor-vehicle steering-wheel, with the device of my invention applied thereto;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder; and

Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same. I

Although I have illustrated and hereinafter described the preferred embodiment of the invention, I would not be understood as being limited to the specific structure chosen for illustration, for various alterations and modifications may be made in the details of construction and arrangements of parts disclosed, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Referring, now, to the illustrations, my improved holder is preferably constructed of a blank metal sheet, the intermediate portion of which serves as the rear wall, 4. The side edge portions are bent at right-angles to the wall, 4:, to form side walls, 5-; and then laterally toward each other to provide the front wall, 6. The walls are so spaced as to snugly receive the outer case, or cover, 7, of the familiar safety-match-box, within which slides the box proper, 8; and between the overturned edge portions of the sheet, which form the front wall, is left a space, 9, to facilitate the introduction and removal of the cover, 7, into and from the holder.

The lower end portions of the side walls are bent, coincident the ends of the other walls, laterally toward each other, as at 10, the said portions being preferably positioned between and flush with the edges of the front and rear walls. The portions, 10, extend approximately to the free side edges of the wall portions, 6, and the adjacent edges of said end portions are concave, as at 11, to provide an opening in the end wall of sediment size to receive a persons finger to force the box, 8, from its cover, as shown in Fig. 1.

The side walls of the holder are slotted longitudinally, as at 12, to expose the usual abrasive elements on the sides of the cover for lightincr the matches.

Intermediate portions of the side walls and rear wall are sheared transversely of the holder and bent rearwardly to form clamping cars, 13.

The holder is illustrated as being mounted on the spoke, 14, of a motor-vehicle steeringwheel, yet it will be understood that it may be mounted on any suitable support, the holder being so positioned that its rear wall rests on the support, and its clamping ears, 13, on opposite sldes of the support.
