5 e s s m V FLAG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 191%.
Application filed June 41, 1917. Serial No. 172,574.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Bonner HARVIE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of 605 Yonge street, in the city of Toronto, cOunty of York, Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in flag holders as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
The invention. consists essentially of the novel construction and arrangement of parts whereby the flag sticks are secured in openings formed by crimped plates secured together having the corresponding crimped portions of each plate registering.
The objects of the invention are to produce a flag holder in which several flags will be supported in outwardly radiating form and generally to provide a flag holder which will be ornamental and neat of appearance and inexpensive to manufacture.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view from the front side of the device.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the back of the device.
Like numerals of reference indicate correspending parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings 1 a metal plate tapering in width from a substantially rounded end to a comparatively small lower end 3 and having itsside edges provided with extensions or flaps l adapted to be bent backwardly against the main body portion, said plate preferably being bent at right angles adjacent to said lower edge anc forming a ledge The plate 1 is provided with one or more longitudinal crimps 6 extending from the end 2 inwardly and terminating slightly short oi the ledge 5, said crimps forming one half of a flag holder.
The other half of the flag holder com prises a plate 7 adapted to be secured against the plate 1 by means of the flaps land being provided with longitudinal crimps 8, the slots formed by said crimps being adapted to register with the slots formed by the topics of this patent may be obtained. for five cents each, by addressing th Washington, 1).. (2.
crimps 6 of the plate 1 and forming substantially radial openings 9 adapted to receive the flag sticks 10 of the flags 11.
If necessary the plates 1 and 7 may be rigidly secured together by means of bolts 12 extending through said plates and secured by nuts 13.
14 is a strap of metal or other suitable material secured to the outer side of the plate 7 and having on one end thereof a loop or buckle 15, said strap being for the purpose of securing the device to the radiator cap of an automobile or to any other convenient bracket.
To insert the flags in the openings 9 it is only necessary to loosen the nuts .3 and spread apart the plates 1 and 7 and after the flags have been inserted the plates are drawn tightly together by means of said nuts to prevent the flags from moving or dropping out.
It will thus be seen that when the flags are placed in position in the openings 9 the lower ends of the flag sticks will be concealed from view and as the openings are all oi equal length and radiate outwardly slightly the flags will present a very neat and ornamental appearance. W
What it claim is In a flag holder, a plate having a rounded upper end and narrowing in width to a comparatively narrow lower end and being crimped longitudinally adjacent to said upper end, said lower end being turned at right angles, flaps projecting outwardly from the side edges of said plate and folding inwardly, a plate fitting against the afore said plate and held in engagement there with by said flaps, said plate being crilnped correspondingly t0 the first mentioned plate, openings formed by the registering slots of each of said plates, flags secured in said openings, bolts and nuts securing together said plates and a strap for suspending the whole.
Signed at the city of Toronto, Ont, this 25th day of May, 1917.
