UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARENCE J. HAMILTON, OF HOLLY, MICHIGAN.
.IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,070, dated October 8, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE J. HAMIL- TON, of Holly, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented a certain Improvement in Washing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
This invention belongs to that class of washing-machines in which a rubbing-board subjected to spring pressure is used in connection with a cylinder, the clothes passing between the two. The invention consists in the arrangement ofparts hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section.
A is a frame, designed to be placed in a tub when wanted for use. Grosswise of this frame is mounted the grooved cylinder a. B are inclined standards springing from the sides of the frame, and cis a rock-shaft placed between the standards B at the tops of the same. 0 is a concave rubbing-board faced with a sheet of lead, d, said board being secured to arms 6 extending downward from the shaft 0. A spring, t, placed between the end of the frame and theboard O presses the latter in the direction of the cylinder and causes a squeezing of the clothes as they pass between the board and cylinder, thereby assisting in the cleansing process.
- I claim as my invention The combination of the frame A, cylinder a, standards B, rock-shaft 0', rubbing-board 0, arms 6, and spring 13, all arranged and constructed as specified.
