Description
LE ROY M. BODINE. DRAWER PULL FASTENER- APPLICATIOI FILED AUG-8| I919- r Patented Oct. 28, 1919..
LE ROY M. 130mm, OF WALNUT, ILLINOIS.
DRAWER-PULL FASTENEIR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 8, 1919. Serial'No. 316,176.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LE ROY M. BODINE, a citizen of the United States, residingat WValnut, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Pull Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same. I
The present invention relates to a drawer pull fastener, and aimsto provlde a novel yet simple and inexpensive device to be applied to the interior of a drawer over the inner end of securing bolt or screw of the drawer pull, and serving to prevent the rotation of either the nut or bolt or screw head,
to thereby prevent the drawer pull or knob from loosening, as frequently is the case with the ordinary arrangement causing annoyance and inconvenience.
A further object is the provision of such a device which Will also serve as a protection to prevent fabrics and other articles placed within the drawer from being torn or 111- jured by the exposed nut or head within the drawer aswell as preventing the loss of the bolt or screw, or nut.
Another object is the provision of the device of the kind indicated which is adapted to hold either a nut against turningor a bolt or screw head having a slot for the engagement of a screw driver. to suit the device for different kinds of drawer pulls with equal success.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the descrip tion proceeds, the invention resldes in th construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes-can be made within the scope of what is claimed' without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanyin'gdrawing, wherein Figure 1 is 'a face View ofthe device. Fig. 2 is a diametrical section of the device as applied to the inner side over a nut and stem of the bolt or drawer pull or knob.
Fig. 3 is another diametrical section of the device showing it applied over the slotted .head of a bolt or screw.
In carrying out the lnvention, there 1s provided a cap or circular plate of metal or other suitable material, having a convex boss 1 and a surrounding fiat annular flange 2 provided with apertures 3' for'the reception of screws 4 or other securing elements to fasten the cap to the inner side of the front wall of the drawer, as seen in Fig. 2. The screw heads are preferably so countersunk as to be flush with the flange to avoid tearing fabrics which may brush past the cap, and the rounded or spherical surface of the boss 1 will serve as a protection to avoid the tearing of or injury to fabrics in being placed within or removed from the drawer.
Patented 0a. 28, 1919.
knob, to protect the same and also retain Y the nut 6 in place. toprevent the pull'or knob from loosening. The socket 5 is concaved at its bottom portion, so as to accon1 modate the projecting end of the bolt or stem 7. The device can be used in the drawers of dressers, buffets, and the like, to prevent garments and other fabrics from being torn or injured, as not infrequently hap pens, and to also retain the fastening means of the pulls or knobs in place. The devices can be made in various styles and slzes f r 'various drawer pulls andknobs.
In order that the device can be used for slotted heads of bolts or screws, a bar or plate 9 is employed, the .same being of a size to fit diagonally within the socket with its ends within diagonally opposite corners of the socket as seen in Fig. 1. Thus, as seen in Fig. 3, the'bar or plate 9 can be inserted'within the socket of the cap, so that one edge of said bar can extend within the slot of the head 6 of the screw or bolt 7', thereby holding said head in" place against turning movement. This bar 9 is provided within the cap to be used with slotted heads of screws or bolts that are inserted outwardly through the front wall of the drawer,
and if the device is to be applied over a nut, as seen in Fig. 2, bar 9 is removed.
If desired, the flange 2 can be cemented 0r glued in place, or can be fastened within the drawer in any other suitable manner.
It is also preferable to ,provide the cap with a shallow circular depression or recess 10 surrounding the socket 5, to accommodate a washer that may be placed under the nut or bolt head.
It will also be understood that the present device can be used on bolts and screws for other purposes for which it is suited.
. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is l. A drawer pull or similar fastener em bodying a cap having a fiat face and its opposite. side convexed, said cap having an angular socket in its'fiat side to receive a nut or a screw or bolt head, the cap having a shallow recess surrounding the socket and a fiat annular flange surrounding said c0nvexed portion and socket and flush with said flat side for attachment to an object at several points surrounding said socket.
2. A drawer pull or similar fastener em bodying a cap to be secured to the interior of a drawer and having a socket for receiving a nut or a bolt or screw head, and means within said socket for engaging a slotted head.
3. A drawer pull or similar fastener com prising a cap having means for securing t0 the interior of a drawer, and having an angular nut-receiving socket, and a removable bar fitting in the socket with its ends within diagonally opposite corners of the socket, said bar being engageable within a slotted bolt or screw head.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEROY M. BODINE.
Witnesses:
J. W. Ross, ELSIE BULLINGTON.
