f ,BRADFORD s. RADCLIFF, or NORTH BEND, OREGON.
HAS?.
ZoVaZZwiom z'mag/ concern.'
Be it known that I, BRADFORD S-RYAU cL-Irr, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Bend, in the county of Coos and State of Oregon, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Hasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in khasps and more particularly to one adapted to be used as a single type of hasp in accordance with arwell known way, as a double type, or for the purpose of locking a door or gate, when` the salne is disposed at right angles to the portion of a wall or fence against which it works.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hasp, which will operate on a straight line, or around corners, thereby servingl as an eflicient fastening means for the different conditions specified.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described herein and set forth with particularity in the claims appended hereto.L
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hasp. y
Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the hasp in elevation applied to fasten a door or gate when the same is disposed in alinement with the anchoring part, and
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the hasp used to fasten a gate when at right angles to the anchoring part, as a double type of hasp.
As shown in Fig. lof the drawings, my
improved hasp includes a plate 10 having screw openings 11 for anchoring the device to a gate or the like 12. To the plate 10, a plate 13 is hinged as shown at 14, said plate 13 havingk hasp slot 15 therethrough, the space between lthe end of the slot toward the hinged connection 14 and said hinged connection being such as to accom-V modate the plate 10 therebetween. 1
To the opposite end of the plate 13, is
' hinged a plate 16, as shown at 17, said plate 16 having a slot 18 therein corresponding `the usual manner.
Specification of Letters Patent. 5 Oct, 14, 1919, YApplieation mea september 13.1918.. semaine. 253.924. i
with respect to the slot 15, and the space between the slot 1S and the free end of the plate 16 corresponds to the distance between the hinged connection 1% and the adjacent end of the slot 15, so that the plates 13 and 16 are the saine size and the slots 15 and 18 correspond to accommodate the platev 10 therebetween, when the rplates 13 and 1o are folded upon each other through the medium of the hinged connection 17, to en gage a hasp loop 19 carried by a plate 20 secured to a fence, wall or stationary part 21, to which the door or gate 12 is designed to be secured or locked, by the engagement of a padlock through the hasp loop 19 in In this instance, the plate 10 serves as an anchoring means as will be obvious. f
In the use of the device where the gate is disposed at right angles to the fence or anchoring part, in contradistinction to the location of these parts in alinement as shown in Fig. 2, the attaching plate 10 is disposed beneath the plate 13 after being secured to the anchoring part, by swinging the plate 13 on itshinge over the plate 10 and then disposingr the plate 16 at right angles to the plate 13 for engagement with the hasp loop inV the manner alreadyv described, thus adapting the device as a double 'hasp for use on straight portions or around corners.
W hen the device is used as shown in Fig. 2, the same serves the purpose of a single hasp, and when as shown in Fig. 3,A VVthe device serves the purpose of a double ings, it is thought that a clear and com? prehensive understanding of the construction, operatlon and advantages of my invention ma be had and while I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desirethat it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as ydo notdepart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. It will be also observed that when the device is used or folded back particularly as shown in `YF ig. 3 of the drawings, the fastening screws faie Covered rfanlftle,` clevie 5 is fr: reni dered praetleallyf blu'glal'prool,` as screws are lnaccesslble.
Having thus described-my 1wenti0n,-what 10 sections with the except-i0112 of-o11e end seethetient-having medial :longtdihnlly' disposed elongatedk slotsA adapted for" egstaton with each otheI on the folding of the sections one over the other, the said end sectin having a pluralty'of openings adapted te receive fasteners for the Securing of the same to a part.
Intestimony whereof I zLfHX my signature hereto.
BRADFORD S. RADCLIF'F.
