Application filed faifuiyd? To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNADINE D. Mo- Lnoo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colbert, in the county of Spokane, State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Culinary Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which is appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in culinary articles and particularly to supporting devices for collanders, strainers, and the like.
One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is simple in construction, easy and eflicient in its operation, and which is readily adjustable for the different purposes for whlch it is used.
Another object is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is formed to support a collander, a strainer, or a fruit straining bag, novel means being arranged and adjustably mounted for supporting the device on the edge of a dish, pan, or bowl.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention ap lied to a bowl.
ig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of a portion of one of the horizontal arms and the bowl engaging member thereon.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the same line as that of Fig. 3 but showing a fruit straining bag suspended on the upper ring.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a flat metal ring of suitable diameter and dimensions, and secured to this ring, and extending vertically therefrom, are the arms 11. Secured to the outer face of the ring, and extending horizontally therefrom, are the four arms 12, each being formed from a length of stiff wire and having the closed portion thereof disfievsi sst ea of g e ek tegt i :Batentefl. posed at the outer end thereof. A second ring 10 of similar size and proportions to the ring 10, is disposed above the ring 10, and has the depending hollow arms 13 receiving the arms 11 slidably therein, screws 14 being carried by said hollow arms for engagement with the arms 11 to hold the ring in difi'erent adjustable positions toward and away from the ring 10. Slidable on each of the arms 12 is disposed a member 15 which is provided with the flanges 16 for gripping engagement with the side portions of the arm, and the depending spring fingers 17 for gripping engagement with the upper edge of the side Walls of the bowl 18. Thus the device is firmly supported on the edge of the bowl, and the strainer 19 disposed in the ring 10 with its horizontal flange 20 resting on the upper edge of the ring.
In the ring 10 there is formed a circumferential groove into which the mouth of the strainer bag 21 is held by the spring ring 22, which ring is preferably formed from stifi wire and is capable of quickly and easily being taken off of the ring 10 or placed thereon, so that the other hand of the operator can be free to hold the bag.
A The device is of extremely sim le and cheap construction, and is held in rm and stationary position on the bowl so that the liquids strained through the devices sup ported thereby will be prevented from disengagement.
What is claimed is:
1 A culinary device including a pair of superimposed rings, means connecting the rings for adjusting the rings toward and away from each other, the upper ring having means for holding a strainer thereto, and means carried by the lower ring for gripping engagement with the edge of a vessel.
2. A culinary device consisting of a pair of superimposed rings, vertical arms carried by the lower ring, depending hollow arms carried by the upper ring and slidably and adjustably receiving the first arms to adjust the rings toward and away from each other, horizontal arms on the lower ring, and means adjustable longitudinally on the arms for engagement with the edge of the wall of a vessel.
3. A culinary device including a pair of superimposed rings, means connecting the In testimony whereof I aflix my signature rings ami adjustable to move the rings toin the presence of two witnesses.
