Tama-MGR,
Speciiicationonf atent. Patented Sept. 23, 1919.
Application led March 13, 1919. Serial No. 282,429.
To all 'whom may concern:
Be it known that I, WASYL ZAnoRozNY, a
`citizen of Austria, residing at Meacham,
Province of Saskatchewan, and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trick Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in portable locks, and has as its special object the provision of a lock which when operated in the usual manner by a key, forces a plurality of needle-like points outward from the lock casing, so that unless the operator is familiar with the lock, and grasps the same at the proper points, he would be pierced by the needles.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a padlock made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse horizontal sectional.
view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the lock consists of a substantially rectangular body, except for the diagonal corners, the body 10, being formed with a back 11, and plate 12 covering the chamber in which the mechanism of the lock is located.
A shackle 14, is pivoted in the body by the pin 15, this shackle' being substantially U shaped and having an end 16, passing through an appropriate opening 17, formed near the opposite end from the pivot in the upper edge of the lock, the shackle containing a recess 18 receptive of a projecting detent 19, formed with a lock bar 20, movable longitudinally in the lock, between the back 11 and casing cover 12.
The bar 2O has a lateral extension 21, and is guided by cross strips 22, similar strips 23,
being fixed in the lower part of the lock forl guiding a lower longitudinal bar 24, having an upturned lateral extension 25 at one end, the extensions 21 and 25 making contact with the ends of the bars 2O and 24, when the device is in a locked position. Directed outward from the outer edges of the extensions 21 and 25, are a plurality of sharply pointed pins 27, adapted to extend through openings appropriately formed in the end walls of the lock casing, these pins being surrounded by coiled compression springs 28, by means of which the bars are normally pressed into contact.
Formed upon the outer edges of the longitudinal bars 20 and 24, are angular projections 30, or teeth, their beveled surfaces making contact with similar pins 31, adapted to extend through theupper and lower walls of the lock casing, when the bars are moved outwardly, while at the same time other pins 32 are projected outwardly through the cover of the casing, by similar beveled projections 33, formed on the outer surfaces of the bars 20 and 24,
The inner adjacent edges of the bar are provided with rack teeth 33 and 34, meshing with which are the teeth of a pinion 36, the same having an extending bushing 37, acting as an escutcheon for the hole 38, receptive of a key by which the bars are moved, thereby compressing the springs 28, pressing the pins outward, and releasing the shackle 14 from the detent 19.
j From theforegoing it will be seen that a person unaccustomed or unacquainted with the construction of the lock, is likely to be deterred from attempting to negotiate the lock unauthorizedly.
I claim.
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a hollow body, of a U shaped shackle pivotally engaged therein, a pair of bars slidably engaged longitudinally in said body, means for actuating said bars upon the entrance of a key, a plurality of projecting pins in the walls of said casing, and means formed with the bars for projecting said pins outwardly when a key is turned in said lock.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a body having a cavity therein and a cover secured thereover, of a shackle pivotally engaged in said body hav- IGEL. y
