vv ITNE gans hrw' 3% his ksb UNITED STATES SERENO B. PRATT, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT EN CHILDRENS HATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,371, dated September 17, 1872.
To all4 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SERENO BRAINARD PRATT, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of- Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Ohildrens Hats, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a childs hat the crown of which is detachable from the rim, and the rim itself of which is not sewed or permanently fastened, so that both the crown and rim may be easily washed and put togetheriagain without injur`yA` to the hat.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a sketch of an untrimmed hat when ready for use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view ci' the rim when spread out and detached from the crown. Fig. 4 is asimilar view of`the crown.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
a is the crown. b is the rim. c c are the buttons, and g the button-holes attaching the rim and crown. c are buttonholes in the rim. d is a button in the rim.
In practical operation, when the hat becomes soiled remove the crown, rip out any stitches there may be in it, and it is ready to be washed like any articleof clothing. To wash the rim all that is needed is tounbutton it and it is ready. Any trimming there is upon the hat may be removed while it is being cleansed.
The hat may be made of almost any material (some kind of stili' or irxnmaterial being preferable) which is an article of convenience and economy.
It is not unhealthy, the openings between the rim and crown affording good ventilation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination and arrangement of the crown a, and rim b, constructed, united, and detachable from each other, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set fort-h.
SER-ENO BRAINARD PRATT.
