Description

H. POLLEY.
Improvement in Hanging Bracket. N0. 131,298. v Patented Sep. 10, I872.
Witnesses Inventor UNITE Til SrArEs PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY POLLEY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ON E-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO' ANTHONY ROSENFIELD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT m HANGING-BRACKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,298, dated September 10, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY PoLLEY, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved Drop or Hanging Bracket; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which'it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved drop or hanging bracket which is chiefly applicable to such positions as beneath a shelf or other horizontal surface, or a low ceiling where it is desirable to fix hooks or brackets for the support of various articles. It consists mainly in the employment of a conical, cylindrical, or other convenientlyshaped socket or hub, having a screw at one end for the purpose of attaching it. The sides of this socket are pierced with a number of apertures, into which the hooks or supports are fixed so as to project radially outward in a suitable manner for sustaining articles.
Referring to the accompanying drawing for a more complete explanation of my invention, Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a side sectional elevation.
A is a cylindrical, square, conical, or other conveniently-shaped hub, having a disk at the top and a suitable screw, B, for securing it firmly to the lower surface of any horizontal shelf or ceiling. The lower portion of the hub is hollow and sufficiently elongated to admita series of openings, 0, at its sides. Arms, hooks, or brackets, D, of any convenient size and style of ornamentation are made, and a hook attachment, E, is formed, on the inner end. This hook fits into the opening or socket C, and the arms are thus firmly secured so as to project radially outward from the central hub and in such a manner as to support articles of dress or other things. The books or arms are easily removable, and when not in use can be stored away either with the hub, or that may be left in place, as it occupies very little space.
If desired, the hub maybe made on a swivel so as to turn around and bring either hook to the front for convenience. 7
By this invention I am enabled to provide a cheap and useful bracket which can be easily adjusted, and is very useful in ships cabins and other places where it is desired to have articles secured to the ceiling.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is---- The adjustable radial arms or brackets D l with their receiving-hooks E, in combination with the hub A with its openings or sockets O and the screw B, or its equivalent, substantially as and for the purpose above described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.
HENRY POLLEY. [L. s]
