JEAN con-anon, or LYoiv, FRANCE.
. FOLDING BRAZIER.
Application filed August 6, 1318.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN COURBON, of Lyon, France, a citizen of the French Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Braziers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in folding braziers.
The folding brazier is of square shape and is essentially characterized by 1. The arrangement of the hinges with which it is provided at its angles, and which allow it to be folded so as to obtain the smallest size possible in order to facilitate its transport in numbers.
2. The construction of its different parts exclusively in sheet metal, which facilitates its construction and reduces its weight to the minimum.
The improved brazier is particularly applicable for use in army campaign work, for heating proper, or for heating food, as it can be readily set up and easily moved even when containing lighted fuel.
The annexed drawing illustrates an example of construction of the brazier.
Figure 1. is a plan view of the brazier set up.
Fig. 2. is a plan view of the samewhen folded.
Fig. 3. represents respectively on the left a vertical semi-section through 11 of Fig. 1., and on the right a front semi-elevation of the unfolded brazier.
The brazier is essentially composed of four sheet metal side walls, a, b, c, d, provided with holes 6 for the free passage of the air necessary for combustion: these side walls are connected by hinges arranged as follows :-two opposite side walls a and 0 are provided at each end with two openings a 0 in which are engaged metal strips 7, f forming closed loops, and which are riveted to the other two side walls 6 and Z of the brazier. The bottom 9 also comprising holes 6, can be folded on one of the side walls of the brazier by means of hinges a, arranged in the same way as those connecting the a side walls: the bottom rests on flanges it, formed by the inwardly bent lower edges of the four side walls.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 5, 1919.
Serial no. 248,642.
The brazier is supported by four feet '5 formed by a strip of metal folded flat lengthwise and riveted on said side walls. At the top of one of the side walls, for in stance, 0 is mounted a U-shaped metal strip j'of which the two open ends form loops engaging in openings provided on this side wall. This member can be rotated in these openings in order to engage in notches is provided on the opposite wall a. It serves, therefore, as a rigid support for the dishes, pots, etc. containing food to be cooked or heated. The two other side walls I) and cl are each provided with an opening Z in which can be engaged a metal strip m performing the ofiice of poker, and which also serves to transport the brazier short distances when it is hot. At ordinary times the poker is hooked to a rivet a fixed on one of its sides.
In order to fold the brazier, it is sufficient to turn the support j around and down against the outside of the wall a as shown in Fig. 3, and then fold the bottom 9 against the wall a and press on two opposite corners of the device, when the parts will assume the position shown in plan in Fig. 2.
The brazier folded as represented in Fig. 2. is then reduced to the minimum size, which enables it to be transported easily and in large numbers on motor vehicles or by rail; its relatively light weight also allows it to be carried short distances.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A folding brazier comprising four sheet met-a1 side walls provided with air admission orifices, two of said side walls being each provided adjacent each end with two longitudinal openings, metal strips riveted to the other two side walls, said strips being bent to form closed loops engaging in said longitudinal openings, inwardly projecting flanges extending along the bottom edges of said side walls, a bottom plate, hinges connecting said bottom plate to the bottom edge of. said side walls, the said bottom plate resting on said flanges when the stove is in use. feet for supporting the brazier, a U-shaped strip, and loops on the open ends of said strip engaging in openings in the In witness whereof I have signed this top of one of said side Walls so that said speclficatlon in the presence of two witstrip can be turned over and lie across the nesses.
top of the brazier and engage in slots in JEAN COURBON. 5 the opposite side Wall for the purpose of Witnesses:
maintaining the Whole rigid and also for JEAN GERMAIN,
supporting cooking vessels. MARIN VACI-ION.
copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
' Washington, I). 0."
