HOWARD E. CHAMBERS AND JOHN L. DOWNING, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
CAMP STOVE.
Application filed July 31, 1920.
T0 (ZZZ w from it may concern Be it known that we. HOWARD E. CHAM- incns and JOHN L. DowNINe citizens of the United States, and residing at Seattle. in the county of King and State of ashington. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvementin portable stoves, of the type designed for use in camping or the like, the construction permitting the stove to be folded into a small compact shape for storage.
The improved stove is made up of a top, side sections hinged thereto, and legs having hinged connection with the top, the side sections being capable of use as top extensions or as shields to properly direct the draft to the stove.
The invention in the preferred form of details will he described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of the improved stove, showing the parts in position for use.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the stove folded.
The improved stove comprises top section 1. of appropriate size and including a rectangular frame 2. Rods e connect the ends of the frame and pass through the brace strip, thus providing an open gratelike top. The respective corners of the frame forming the top are provided with pins to which are hinged legs 6. These lens are pointed at 7 at their free ends. so that the stove as a whole may he supported by forcing the free ends of the legs into the around. crtain of the legs are offset S for a portion of their length in order to permit folding? of the respective legs towards each other in flat relation to the top without interference. The legs at one end of the grate have a plate 5 secured thereto, which cooperates with the side plates to control draft to the tire, and also to serve as a protection to prevent the flames from shooting out through the end. so that one may approach the grate to handle the utensils without danger of having their clothes set on fire.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 17, 1922.
Serial No. 400,335.
Side plates 9, preferably imperforatc have.
adapted to be extended to support the plates,
or to be folded flat desired.
In the use of the stove it is set up by mow ing the legs at right angles to the top and forcing said legs partially into the ground. The fire may then he built beneath the top section. and the cooking utensils placed on said top section to he heated. Either or both of the side plates may he extended and supported to serve as auxiliary top sections for the stove, or either of said side plates may be turned downwardly at an appropriate angle with the top section, or so as to completely cut off air admission from either side or both sides of the top section. The draft mav he thus controlled by the adjustment of these side plates. for the more etfec tive burning of the fuel.
The folding of the stove is obvious. the legs being folded into contact with the bottom of the top section, one of the side plates folded on top 01"? the top section and the other on the bottom. or both on the hottom as the hinged construction may provide. thus forming a compact small package which may he reanilv handled through a handle 12 secured to one of the side bars of the frame of the top section.
