of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved childs arment, and has for an object the production of a combined dress and rompers possessing benefits of economic usefulness, style and convenient adaptability, whereby the arment can be easily and comfortably fitte readilyremoved and advantageously handled when being washed, pressed and the like.

Another object of my invention is to 1'0- duce a combined garment consisting 0 an outer dress portion capable of embodying the seasons style or design, and an underarment in the form of rompers or drawers,

0th of said garments being open throughout their length and capable of being folded out into a substantially fiat position for pressin and other purposes.

Anot er object of my invention is the production of a combined garment including an outer dress, and an inner garment space from the outer dress beginnin .ata oint approximating the waist line, 1; e said inner arment being cut to form rompers or drawers when fastened at the crotch thereof.

With these and other objects in view the invention further consists in producing a chi-lds garment, the waist, skirtamd nom ers being cut so as to be subsequently joine 110* gether in a convenient manner at a oint approximating the waist line for relatively strengthening the garment against possible tearing or ripping usually resulting from extensive lay or exercise.

In the rawings which show two embodiments of my garment,

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined dress and rompers showing the dress portion open throughout its length and the rompers buttoned to form the leg portion of the garment.

The present invention has been designed 'to combine the relative advantages obtained from the use of the ordinary so-called rompers and the additional esthetic appearance of the varying styles of dress which in the present instance will conceal the rompers from casual view andat the same time give ample freedom for all forms of play.

The. garment comprises the dress 1, which may be of any suitable style, includin the collar 2', belt 3, skirt portion 4, an the rompers or drawers 5 secured to the dress at a point approximating the Waist line. The dress as shown in the preferred form of my invention is opened throughout its length as at 6, and suitable fastening de vices 7, such as buttons and the like, may

be employed to hold the garment in place.

As shown, I prefer to use t e concealed form of buttons, which when the dress is fastened serves to give. it the appearance of a onepiece. suit with plaited skirt. The dress is preferably cut with a waist portion 8 to which is secured the skirt 4. The waist por- .,t1on-."and skirt are joined to the rompers at or about the waist line in a manner now to be described.

As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the waist 8 is folded back upon itself as at 9 overlapping the upper edge 10 of the skirt 4 against which latter is lald the upper edge 11 of the rompers 5. A suitable binding 12 is stitched over these lapped edges, as shown. The joining of the several portions of the garment at this point forms substantially a waist band which will lay snugl against the inner portion of the garment. From this construction it will be seen that the strength of the garment is materially increased because of the overlapping of the aforesaid edges in a plane coincident to the strain to which the garment may be subjected.

The rompers 5 comprise relative leg portions 13 and 14 and an intermediate crotch flap 15 of sufficient Width to space-and form the openings in the leg portions, as shown. Suitable fastening devices 16 are carried by the rompers "to whitih the flap T5 is 'detachably secured. The 'rompers are open throughout their length as at 17 and are 'further provided with fastening deviees '18 for fastening the rompers when in position upon a child. The 'rompers "are preferably out to snugly fit the 'loWer portion of the body and serve as a ready substitute for other undergarments, such as *paddies now generally used. The skirt may have asuffieient fullness to permit freedom 'of play and at the sometime preserve the usual appearance of a stylishly designed garment.

In use, the garment may be opened throughout its length and readily fitted to the 'bod in the 'manner of =a coat. The rompers portion may be easily fastened'as shown in Fig. 1, after'whieh thedress can be secured. "It will be readily understood that the reverse of this order'muy be em- 'p'loyed,that is to say, the rompers'may be fastened and unfastened wholly independent of the dress ortion as occasions require. waist portion 20 and a skirt 21, the lapped edges of which abut against each other and the edge of the rompers 22, there being a binding strip 23 stitched around the abutting edges to form the waist band for strengthening the garment, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. The rompers 22 are provideil with leg portions 24 and 25 'between which the-crotch flap 26 is designed to be fastened. Suitable fastcnings 27 hold the crotch flap 26 in position when fitted to the body. lit will be seen that this form-of the combined garment 'may be also readily pressed. From the foregoing it will be seen that I have produced a combined childs garment possessing advantages of utility when viewed from the various cares incident to hildhoo d, and the additional es- =th'etic benefitswhich go to make up=the style of the garment.

Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim and desire -to secure by Letters Patent 'is:

1. A-ga1ment comprising a waist and skirt open throughout its length, a leg covering secured to saidgarment at a point approximating the waistline, said leg covering hav- 'ing an opening extending from the upper 'to =thelower edgesthereof, and means for detachably closing the leg covering whereby leg openings are formed therein.

2. A garment comprising a waist and skirt'open throughout its length, a leg eovering secured to said garment at a point approximating the waistline, I said leg covering having an opening coincident with the aforesaid "opening in the waist, and skirt, andextendingfroin the upper to the lower edges thereof, and means for detachably closing the leg covering whereby legopens-ere formed therein.
