BRUSH-EANLE ATTACIHIL'ENT.
Specification of Letters I'atent.

Application fike%3u1y15, 1918. Serial No. 245,032.
To all wiwm it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. WAGNER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of "Wisconsin, have invented certam new and useful Improvements in Brush- Handle Attachments; and Ido hereby dcclare that the following is a full, clear, and
- The principal object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this character which can be attached to any type of brush now in common use.
Another object of the invention'isthe provision of a brush handle havingan attaching plate provided with intersecting guide slots to permit adjustment of the handle in four directions.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an attaching plate provided with means adjacent the ends of its guide slots to. hold a nut, carried by the handle, against rotation.
With these and other objects in view which will be apparent as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and defined by the appended claim, it bein understood that changes in the pre cise eriibodiment might be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
This invention in one practical form in which it may be embodied is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a brush with the invention attached thereto and shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the attaching plate.
Fig. 8 is a detail sectional view through a portion of the invention, and
Fig. 4 is a detail view of the nut locking means.
Referring "now more particularly to the accompanying drawings 1 designates an at taching plate, secured to a brush B, and
having its central portion 1 arched upward and provided with intersecting guide slots 2 running longitudinally and transversely of the attaching plate. A. hand e 3 provided with a threaded end has mounted thereon a ferrule a ha 'ing a threaded end 5 adapted to project through the guide slots 2 and having its end crowned to form ahead 6. Threaded upon the end 5 and disposed interiorly of the arched portion 1' is a nut 7 adapted to bind the ferrule and attaching plate together to hold the handle in its adj usted position.
Adjacent the ends-of the slots 2 are rib projections 8 which conform to the sides of the nut 7 and engage the same to prevent it from being rotated.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that by a turn of the handie 8 sufiicient to loosen the not '3' the handle can be adjusted to any one of the four ends of the slots 2 where the nut 7 will be engaged by a flange 8 and upon a turn in the reversed direction the handle will be locked in its adjusted position. Furthermore ,in providing the attaching plate with a central arch portion the plate can be attached to a Hat surface, at the same time leaving sutficient space between the arched portion and surface of the brush to permit the handle to be traversed within the slots, without necessitating cutting away of the brush. head. Inasmuch as the arched portion acts as a strengthening reinforcement the attaching plate can be formed or stamped from a very light material, thus makingv the device simple and economical in construction.
I claim:
A. handle attachment for brush heads comprising a plate arched and slotted longitudinally and transversely to provide angularly disposed side and end portions in which are disposed the end portions of its slots, a handle socket bolt selectively ex tending through one of the slots, a clamplug nut threaded on the bolt at the inner portion of the plate, an enlargement at the inner end of the bolt forming a retainer for the nut whereby said nut, plate and handle socket bolt are permanently con- Q 151mm nected, and angular shoukters at. the ends In testimony that I claim the foregoing I of the slots, said shoulders being open tO- have hereunto set my hamlet Milwaukee, ward their respective slots for the reception inthe county of Milwaukee and State of of the nut whereby said nut is held against Wisconsin.
5 rotation when moved to the end of the slot. CHARLES W, WAGNER]
