Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 29, 1919.
Original application filed June 12, 1915, Serial No. 33,798. Divided and this application filed September 13,
' 1916. Serial No. 119,851.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEWART R. MCKAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Concrete- Forms, (Case G,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact .description.
This invention relates to forms for use in the molding of concrete and more particularly to forms composed of parts, including vertical posts, panels adapted to be inserted between said posts, and clamping means for securing the panels to the posts. The invention herein described relates more particularly t0 the cooperating construction of posts, panels, and clamping means; also to a new and comparatively simple form of post. The invention illustrated and de scribed herein is a division of my application No. 33,798, filed June 12, 1915.
In the drawings forming part hereof, Figure 1 represents a sectional detail in perspective of a construction embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a sectional plan View of such construction; Fig. 3 a side elevation of such construction; Fig. 4 a plan View showing a pair of posts and the cooperating panels and clamping members.
Describing by reference characters the various parts illustrated herein, 1 denotes one of the posts generally, each post being shown as constructed of a pair of channels 1* spaced apart and each having flanges 1 and 1. The flanges l of the two channels are connected by a plate 2, while the flanges 1 are connected by a plate 2 the plates being secured to the flanges in any preferred manner. This results in the production of a hollow metallic post of box-like construction having double lips at each side of the work-facing portion thereof and with similar lips at the opposite portion thereof.
Cooperating with the posts are panels, each panel being preferably of the form shown in the drawings and comprising a body or filler 3 of Wood or similar material having tongues 3 projecting from the lateral ends thereof. This filler is shown as provided with a metal sheathing 3 covering the same. The thickness of the lips formed by the flanges 1 and the plate 2* is preferably equal to the distance from the tongue 3* to the side of the panel whereby the inner or work-face of the panel will form a plane with the inner or work-facing side of the post when the panel is clamped to the post.
For the purpose of so clamping the panels to the post, I employ a channeled clamp, indicated at 18. The flanges 18 of this channel are preferably of such depth as to be in substantial engagement with the rearwardly projecting shoulders 3 which eX- tend from the tongue 3* to the rear face of the sheathing. The channel clamping member is of such width that it will bear with one flange against the flanges 1 and with its opposite flange against the side of the tongue 3*. When it is desired to remove the panels, the channeled clamps may be driven upwardly until their lower ends disengage the tongues 3 whereupon both the clamps and the panels may be removed.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination, with a post having a pair of spaced flanges projecting from one of thelateral faces thereof, of a panelhaving a tongue projecting from a lateral end thereof, and a channeled clamp adapted to be inserted between one of the post flanges and the tongue thereby to force the opposite side of said tongue into engagement with the other post flange.
2. The combination, with a post having a pair of spaced flanges projecting from one of the lateral faces thereof, of a panel, and a channeled clamp adapted to be inserted between one of said flanges and the panel thereby to force said panel into engagement with the other flange.
3. The combination, with a post having a channeled side, of a panel having a tongue projecting laterally therefrom, and a channeled clamp adapted to be inserted between one of the post flanges and said tongue.
4. The combination with a post, the opposite sides whereof are of channel formation, of panels each having a laterally projecting tongue at one end thereof, and channeled clamping members insertible between the gage the inner flanges of said posts, and rear flanges of each side of the post and the clamping means interposed between the 10 tongue of the adjacent panel. outer flange of each post and the outer sur- 5. The combination, with a pair of posts, face of the end portion of the panel adjacent 5 each post having an inner and an outer thereto.
flange presented toward the other post, of a In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my panel interposed between said posts and signature.- having lateral end portions adapted to en- STEWART R. MoKAY.
