MOLD FOR CONCRETE WALLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds for Concrete Walls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in the type of molds for concrete walls which constitute the subject matter of my former application for Letters Patent, Serial Number 381,407, filed June 29th, 1907; and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and combination of parts in the tie plates used to connect the mold planks together, and by means of which a symmetrical scoring of the surface of the wall is effectively and economically attained, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1, is a vertical section on line cc-ac Fig. 2 of a pair of mold planks connected together by a tie plate of the resent construction. Fig. 2, is a sectional p an on line acdc Fig. 1.
Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in both views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents portions of'a' pair of mold planks arranged one above the other to constitute a portion of a vertical side wall of the mold; and 2 the usual vertical studding by which the required su port and rigidity is'imparted to a mold wa formed of a series of super-imposed planks. 3 are the tie plates by which the mold planks 1 are secured in proper vertical alinement; such tie plates are formed of plate metal, so that when in place they will occupy but little vertical space between adjacent edges of the mold planks 1, and as usual in the present type of wall molds. In the present invention, said plates are formed at their inner ends with right angle flanges 4 and 5 extending in opposite directions away from the main body of the plate and adapted to form stops for the adjacent inner corners of the mold planks to hold the same against inward lateral displacement. At their outer ends, said plates are provided with extensions in which are formed a series of elongated slots 6 for the passage of the tapering keys or wedges 7, which are drawn into said slots and have bearing against the outer faces of the mold planks 1, and are adapted to force and clamp said mold planks against the flanges 4 and 5, .as the keys or wedges are drawn into place.
The extensions of the plates 3 aforesaid may be inte ral portions of said plates, but are referabIy formed separate and riveted in p ace, as providing a more economical construction.
In the present improvement, the flanges 4 and 5 aforesaid are of an extended and convenient length, so as to meet corresponding constructions on the next adjacent tie plates to constitute a continuous projection within the mold cavity. Such flanges have some thickness and a suitable cross-section, such as triangular as shown, and adapted to form horizontal grooves in the face of'the wall, which can be converted into an ordinary "block face by the use of a series of similar sections or stri s 9 arranged in vertical spaced relation etween pairs of the aforesaid horizontal flanges 4 and 5, and held in place by tongues or extensions 10 on the sections 9 engaging behind said flanges as shown in Fig. 1.

Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A tie for mold planks comprising a main plate having right angle flanges at one end extendin the width of the tie plate and adapted to orm a continuous projection within the mold cavity, and elongated slots at the other end, and tapering keys engaging said slots, substantially as set forth.
2.
