Description
' F. M. JQHNSON.
Improvement in Tdol-H andles.
N0. 131,102. I Patented Sep. 3,1872.
PATENT OFFICE.
-FRANOIS M. JOHNSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOOL-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 131,102, dated September 3, 1872.
To all whom it may cancer-n.-
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. JOHNSON, of the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pocket Combination Tools, or a device for travelers and others; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description thereof,
reference being had to the accompanying drawin g forming a part of this specification.
The drawing shows the nature of my invention, which may be used as a door-fastener or guard, a screw-driver, tack-puller, wrench, vise, and saw.
Figure 1 represents a view of my invention folded up, with a band surrounding the same. Fig. 2 is a view, open as a brace or guard, resting against a door. Fig. 3 is a view. of the same folded up, with the saw attached.
I make my invention by casting, by way of preference, of malleable iron, this being cheap, strong, and the most convenient to adopt, ad-
mittin g of being readily hardened, which is desirable when a part of the same is to be used as a screw-driver. The notches and holes may be readily molded, thereby saving labor they may be plated, polished, or japanned, as desired. The saw is made in the usual manner and of the usual materials, and is attached to the guard, which is to now serve as a handle by closing the same upon the blade, allowing To use my device a description will not be necessary, as a reference to the drawing will suffice.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient tool for travelers and others, combining several features of utility, simple and cheap in its construction, serving for the several purposes named, being useful to any house hold, as well as to that class of mechanics who often need such tools for use about their experiments at home.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure Letters Patent for, is
A pocket-tool and door-guard, made substantially as and for the purposes herein specilied.
FRANCIS M. JOHNSON.
