SAMUEL HEATH, OF ROXBOIROUGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
AIR-DISTRIBUTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 22, 1919.
Application filed March 1, 1917. Serial No. 151,825.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HEATH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roxborough, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Air-Distributers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in air distributors, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple andeflective device of this character which may be used with oil or gas lamps or stoves, whereby a perfect combustion is pro duced, so that the flame will be odorless and smokeless, and the light greatly intensified.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth andthen specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will which Figure 1, is a side elevation of a lamp showing my improved air distributor applied thereto, and,
Fig. 2, is an enlarged vertical, sectional view of my air distributer as applied to the hood of a lamp.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied, 2 represents a burner hood of common construction having perforated side walls open at the lower end and provided at the upper end with an imperforated top 3 having a central screw receiving opening 1 formed therein. On the top of the burner hood is mounted the imperforate bell shaped deflector 5 which projects downward over the burner hood and is spaced therefrom throughout the major portion thereof as will be plainly seen in Fig. 2. a
On the outside of the deflector 5 is located the imperforate cup shaped baifle member 6 of less diameter than the deflector 5, and each of the members 5 and 6 is provided with a screw receiving opening 7.
When the members 5 and 6 are in position into the lower part of the deflector 5, from which said heated air will be deflected into the flame to improve this combustion and thus remove the obnoxious odors, smoke and soot generally arising, and other currents of air will be formed by the peculiar shape of baifle member 6, which will be raised to a high temperature by the heat of said baflle member and pass into the flame to cause complete combustion.
In actual pratice it has been found that the member 6 must be cup shaped, and must be of smaller diameter than the deflector 5,
and it has been further found that when this device is used upon a burner, the obnoxious odors, soot and smoke are entirely eliminated.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and-useful is z 1. An air distributor comprising in combination with a perforated burner hood, a bell shaped deflector, a cup shaped bafile member of smaller diameter than the deflector, and means for securing the baflie memher and the deflector to the burner hood.
2. An air distributor comprising two imperforate convex members projecting in opposite directions. one of said members being of smaller diameter than the other, and means for securing said members to a burner hood with the smaller member uppermost.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunt aflixed my signature.
SAMUEL HEATH.
